Brief Report: "What Is This PrEP?"-Sources and Accuracy of HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) Awareness Among Adolescent Girls and Young Women Attending Family Planning and Maternal Child Health Clinics in Western Kenya.

BACKGROUND: Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) delivery to adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) is scaling up in sub-Saharan African countries. Understanding how AGYW learn about PrEP is needed to inform programs seeking to reach AGYW with HIV prevention tools. METHODS: AGYW (ages 15-24), attending routine family planning and maternal child health clinics in Kisumu, Kenya, participated in in-depth interviews. AGYW were recruited if they either declined or accepted PrEP when offered that day in clinic or were currently or previously on PrEP. Thematic analysis was used to identify key themes re

Associations of Race, Specific Asian Origin Grouping, and Limited English Proficiency with Receiving a Diabetes Care Plan Among Adults with Type 2 Diabetes: Data from the California Health Interview Survey.

BACKGROUND: Asian Americans are at elevated risk for poor diabetes outcomes, with substantial heterogeneity in disease burden across origin groups. Limited English proficiency (LEP) may further exacerbate disparities. Diabetes care plans are crucial drivers of a person's ability to engage in diabetes self-management, yet Asian Americans may have reduced access to care plans. OBJECTIVE: To examine the association of race and ethnicity, and LEP with receiving a diabetes care plan, and whether LEP status modifies this association. METHODS: 2013-2022 California Health Interview Survey data were

Sustained diabetes risk reduction after real life and primary health care setting implementation of the diabetes in Europe prevention using lifestyle, physical activity and nutritional intervention (DE-PLAN) project.

BACKGROUND: Real life implementation studies performed in different settings and populations proved that lifestyle interventions in prevention of type 2 diabetes can be effective. However, little is known about long term results of these translational studies. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine the maintenance of diabetes type 2 risk factor reduction achieved 1 year after intervention and during 3 year follow-up in primary health care setting in Poland. METHODS: Study participants (n = 262), middle aged, slightly obese, with increased type 2 diabetes risk ((age 55.5 (SD = 11.

Joint statement by the World Psychiatric Association, the American Psychiatric Association, the European Psychiatric Association, and the Global Expert Task Force on ECT on the portrayal of electroconvulsive therapy in the WHO Guidance on Mental Health Policy and Strategic Action Plans.

The World Psychiatric Association, the American Psychiatric Association, the European Psychiatric Association, and the Global Expert Task Force on ECT welcome the WHO's emphasis on rights-based, person-centered, and recovery-oriented mental health policies. However, they express concern that the WHO Guidance contains scientifically inaccurate and misleading statements particularly regarding electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). These portray ECT as inherently dangerous and advocate for its restriction or prohibition, thereby reinforcing stigma and potentially limiting access to evidence-based care

Guardians' willingness to vaccinate primary and secondary school girls against human papillomavirus and associated factors in ethnic autonomous prefectures of Qinghai Province, China: A cross-sectional study based on the Health Belief Model and Theory of Planned Behavior.

Cervical cancer is a preventable threat to women's health, and human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination is key primary prevention. "The project did not come to us with a solution": Perspectives of research teams on implementing a study about electronic health record-embedded individualized pain plans for emergency department treatment of vaso-occlusive episodes in adults with sickle cell disease.

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to capture the implementation process of the ALIGN Study, (An individualized Pain Plan with Patient and Provider Access for Emergency Department care of Sickle Cell Disease). ALIGN aimed to embed Individualized Pain Plans in the electronic health record (E-IPP) and provide access to the plan for both adult patients with sickle cell disease (SCD) and emergency department providers when a person with SCD comes to the emergency department in vaso-occlusive crises. METHODS: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with research teams from the 8 participating sites fr

Effectiveness of BNT162b2 and Ad26.COV2.S vaccines against COVID-19-related hospitalisation amongst adult members of a private health insurance plan in South Africa during the Delta and Omicron periods: A test-negative case-control study.

BACKGROUND: COVID-19 vaccine effectiveness estimates from Africa are limited. These data can guide decisions on selecting priority groups in vaccine programs. This study estimated VE for BNT162b2 and Ad26.COV2.S against COVID-19-related hospitalisation, stratified by age group, time since vaccination, and HIV-infection status for three SARS-CoV-2 surges in South Africa. METHODS: We applied a test-negative case-control design to hospitalisations for acute respiratory infections amongst members of a medical insurance plan during the delta (9 May 2021-18 September 2021), omicron BA.1 (28 Novembe

Influence of federal and state regulations on the acquisition and operation by hospitals of magnetic resonance imaging scanners.

The article introduces key health planning issues considered in the initial introduction of an emerging medical technology. Health planning is defined in historical perspective with an emphasis on Certificate of Need (CoN) legislation at the state and broader health planning legislation at the federal level. The article explains how the CoN process attempts to deal with the issues outlined earlier. In conclusion the article points to the limited effect the CoN process has had as a regulatory measure, suggesting that the future role of legislated health planning in connection with the new medic…

Implementing regulatory reform: the saga of Michigan's debedding experiment.

This paper traces the implementation of Michigan's program for hospital bed reduction through four phases in the critical first 30 months following enactment: standard-setting, plan development, plan approval, and legislative oversight. Procedural complexity and goal conflict complicated implementation from the start: what began as a simple proposal to close unneeded beds soon became enmeshed in efforts to address long-standing issues of equity in access to care. A combination of administrative, political, and economic factors peculiar to Michigan, as well as the more generic problems incurred

Administrative simplification: adoption of a standard for a unique health plan identifier; addition to the National Provider Identifier requirements; and a change to the compliance date for the International Classification of Diseases, 10th Edition (ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS) medical data code sets. Final rule.

This final rule adopts the standard for a national unique health plan identifier (HPID) and establishes requirements for the implementation of the HPID. In addition, it adopts a data element that will serve as an other entity identifier (OEID), or an identifier for entities that are not health plans, health care providers, or individuals, but that need to be identified in standard transactions. This final rule also specifies the circumstances under which an organization covered health care provider must require certain noncovered individual health care providers who are prescribers to obtain a

[Implementation of the Hospital Plan North-Rhine/Westphalia 2022 : New structures for inpatient treatment].

Hospital planning is of central importance in public healthcare as it aims to safeguard the comprehensive and needs-oriented treatment of the population. The aim of the Hospital Plan North-Rhine/Westphalia (NRW) is a requirement-conform, qualitatively high-grade and also economically viable inpatient care for the population in all regions. The coordination between the service providers should be promoted and the stability of the system as a whole should be increased in favor of patients, employees and hospitals. The core guiding principle is a consistent patient orientation. The incorporation
