After a short review of the chemistry, biosynthesis and physiology (regulation of production and secretion, effects) of the male sex hormones, the possible disturbances of the male sex hormones, the possible disturbances of the male sex function are pathophysiologically listed and some instructive diseases, as castration, testicular feminization, Kallmann syndrome, prolactinoma and flour-bag-drawfs, are discussed. Since 1973, there has been an increase in the reported number of cases of liver tumors (both benign and malignant), associated with the intake of male hormones as anabolic steroids and oral contraceptives. Because these tumors are very rare in the younger age groups, and because there are approximately 50 million women taking oral contraceptives at the present time, there is a definite need for a large-scale epidemiological investigation to clarify this possible association.

The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the effects of several gastrointestinal hormones on the gastric submucosal arterioles using an in vivo microscopy technique. Alteration in diameter of submucosal arterioles, 40 to 90 mu in diameter, in response to infusion of different agents into the celiac axis, was measured in the anesthetized cat. Pentagastrin, the octapeptide of cholecystokinin, natural secretin, and histamine produced arteriolar dilation.
