METHODS: A fourteen-year-old girl, a 29-year-old man, and 42-year-old man had visited our hospital complaining of a lower eyelid bulge. BACKGROUND: Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) are conditions extremely prevalent in the aging male. Although androgens are involved in prostate growth during developmental age, their role in the pathogenesis of BPH/LUTS is debated. Recent data indicate that low testosterone and high estradiol favor disease progression. In addition, the role of other determinants, such as metabolic syndrome or prostate inflammation, is emerging.

BACKGROUND: Congenital lipoid adrenal hyperplasia presents with adrenal insufficiency and sex reversal in 46XY genetic males.
CASE CHARACTERISTICS: Two patients (46 XY karyotype), one having ambiguous genitalia and other having female external genitalia, presented with adrenal crisis at 6 months and 4 weeks of age, respectively.
OBSERVATION: Steroidogenic Acute Regulatory Protein gene sequencing revealed homozygous mutations in both patients.
