Association of electrocardiographic left ventricular hypertrophy with cardiovascular events in hypertensive patients with and without chronic kidney disease.

The relationship between left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) and prognosis in hypertensive individuals has been reported, but the prognostic value of electrocardiographic LVH (ECG-LVH) in the presence or absence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) remains unclear. We retrospectively analyzed 697 hypertensive patients enrolled in the Japan Morning Surge Home Blood Pressure study. ECG-LVH was evaluated using the Sokolow-Lyon voltage (SL), Cornell product (CP), and RV5/V6 criteria, defined as the upper quartile. Echocardiographic LVH (echo-LVH) was defined as a left ventricular mass index >115 g/m² in

Left ventricular hypertrophy as a predictor of adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes in chronic hypertension in pregnancy: a multicenter study.

OBJECTIVE: The impact of chronic hypertension (CHTN) combined with left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) on adverse maternal and fetal pregnancy outcomes remains unclear. METHODS: This multicenter retrospective cohort study included pregnant women with CHTN from four tertiary hospitals in China. Baseline characteristics were compared using the Kruskal-Wallis and Chi-squared tests with Bonferroni correction. Logistic regression (LR) identified risk factors for adverse outcomes. Four machine learning (ML) algorithms were validated, nomograms were developed for model visualization, and SHapley Addi

Enhancing specialist competence in clinical pathways for left ventricular hypertrophy: design and evaluation of a competency-based curriculum.

BACKGROUND: Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) is a frequent clinical phenotype with diverse etiologies, including hypertensive heart disease, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and infiltrative or metabolic disorders. Despite the availability of disease-specific therapies, diagnostic delays and misclassifications remain prevalent. From a health services perspective, these diagnostic gaps are often driven by significant variability in specialist-level diagnostic reasoning and the inconsistent implementation of clinical pathways. To design and evaluate the feasibility of a competency-based curriculum

Hypertension control and its association with left ventricular hypertrophy in children and young people on dialysis: a longitudinal study.

BACKGROUND: Hypertension remains one of the most prevalent modifiable risk associations for adverse outcomes in children receiving dialysis. Despite this, limited longitudinal data exist regarding ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) and cardiac outcomes in children and young people (CYP) initiating dialysis. METHODS: This is a retrospective, longitudinal study of CYP age 5-18 with paired echocardiogram and ABPM evaluations over 12 months ("baseline" to "follow-up") following dialysis initiation. Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) was defined by age-specific indexed left ventricular ma

Left ventricular hypertrophy in young hypertensives: the possible crosstalk of mTOR and angiotensin-II -a case-control study.

BACKGROUND: Hypertension is a major cause of cardiac dysfunction. The earliest manifestation is left ventricular remodeling/hypertrophy. The occurrence of adverse cardiac remodeling and outcomes occurs irrespective of age in blacks. This necessitated an estimate of the prevalence of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) and an assessment of the roles of the mammalian target organ of rapamycin (mTOR) and angiotensin-II (Ang II) as possible pathogenic markers of LVH among young hypertensives. METHODS: This prospective case-control study involved 110 hypertensive and 60 normotensive (control) parti

Left ventricular hypertrophy as a risk factor for accelerated brain aging: Results from the Study of Health in Pomerania.

Previous studies provided evidence for the importance of cardiac structure abnormalities, in particular greater left ventricular (LV) mass, for brain aging, but longitudinal studies are lacking to date. We included 926 individuals (median age 48 years; 53% women) from the TREND cohort of the Study of Health in Pomerania (SHIP) without reduced ejection fraction or a history of myocardial infarction. LV mass index (LVMI) was determined by echocardiography at baseline. Brain morphometric measurements were derived from magnetic resonance images at baseline and 7-year follow-up. Direct effects of b

Treatment of established left ventricular hypertrophy with fibroblast growth factor receptor blockade in an animal model of CKD.

BACKGROUND: Activation of fibroblast growth factor receptor (FGFR)-dependent signalling by FGF23 may contribute to the complex pathogenesis of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) in chronic kidney disease (CKD). Pan FGFR blockade by PD173074 prevented development of LVH in the 5/6 nephrectomy rat model of CKD, but its ability to treat and reverse established LVH is unknown. METHODS: CKD was induced in rats by 5/6 nephrectomy. Two weeks later, rats began treatment with vehicle (0.9% NaCl) or PD173074, 1 mg/kg once-daily for 3 weeks. Renal function was determined by urine and blood analyses. Lef

Factors influencing left ventricular hypertrophy in children and adolescents with or without family history of premature myocardial infarction.

BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular diseases are the highest ranking cause of mortality. The prevalence of cardiovascular diseases is increasing among people in developed and developing countries. Since left ventricular hypertrophy is one of the risk factors leading to extremely dangerous heart diseases and even sudden death at early ages, investigating its contributing factors can be beneficial. The purpose of this study was to determine factors contributing to left ventricular hypertrophy in students aged 7-18 years in Isfahan. Statistical population of this case-control study was the 7-18 year old s

Calf bioimpedance spectroscopy for determination of dry weight in hemodialysis patients: effects on hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: Dry weight estimation in hemodialysis patients is still a substantial problem. Despite meticulous clinical assessment, fluid overload is common, leading to hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH). Segmental calf bioimpedance spectroscopy (cBIS) is a novel tool for dry weight assessment. Here we tested the hypothesis, that its clinical routine use reduces arterial hypertension and left ventricular mass. METHODS: Left ventricular mass (determined by magnetic resonance imaging), blood pressure and antihypertensive medication (defined daily doses, ddd) were assessed a

[A cardiac electric field on the body surface in rats with left ventricular hypertrophy caused by experimental renovascular hypertension].

The dynamics of potential distribution of cardiac electric field on the body surface was studied in renovascular hypertensive rats (Goldblatt type) during the ventricular activity. Three inversions of the mutual location of positive and negative areas of the cardiac electric field on the body surface were found in normotensive and hypertensive rats during the QRS-T period. Left ventricular hypertrophy of the heart in rats caused by renovascular hypertension results in changes of temporal and amplitude characteristics of the body surface potential distribution during the initial and terminal ve
