One or both aviators experienced burning eyes, nausea, fatigue, impairment of eye-hand coordination, euphoria, and memory defects when their cockpit became overwhelmed with the odor of JP-5 fuel. Adult BALB/c mice of both sexes were infected intranasally with 10(6) viable P. brasiliensis conidia. Animals were sacrificed at intervals up to 6 months and studied by histopathology and organ cultures. A 26-year-old male drug abuser developed amaurosis fugax followed by retinal vasculitis in the right eye after nasal inhalation of methamphetamine. He gradually recovered, but required prolonged systemic corticosteroid therapy. We believe that the amaurosis fugax was due to drug-induced vasospasm and that the retinal vasculitis was a drug-induced hypersensitivity vasculitis.

Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) was carried out before and after antigen inhalation in ten hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP) and five control subjects.
