Serial bone-marrow biopsies were obtained from 46 hairy cell leukaemia (HCL) patients at different time intervals during the course of their disease. A total of 18 patients with advanced metastatic renal cell cancer were treated with recombinant interferon alpha-2C (rIFN alpha-2C) at daily doses of 10 X 10(6) IU by intramuscular injection. Eighteen patients, 16 boys and 2 girls, aged 5-14 years, with subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE) were treated with oral isoprinosine (100 mg/kg/day) and intraventricular alpha-interferon 2b (Intron A, Schering Corp.), starting at 500,000 U twice a week and later increasing to 3 million U biweekly. Current therapy for condylomata acuminata (genital warts) is not consistently effective. DISCUSSION: Squamous conjunctival carcinoma is the most frequent neoplasm of the ocular surface. Surgical removal of the lesion is the traditional treatment, but this technique has a high recurrence rate. The production of nitric oxide (NO) was measured in cultures of spleen cells stimulated by lipopolysaccharide (LPS), IL-2 or LPS + IL-2. We observed that NO synthesis is increased by IFN-gamma but inhibited by IFN-alpha/beta.
