A treatment programme for AK, an anomic patient with semantic dementia is described. The programme was based on home practice and resulted in re-learning the names of some objects AK could not name and/or comprehend prior to the treatment. Methadone, a long-acting oral narcotic analgesic, prevents withdrawal symptoms and craving over a 24-hour period in patients addicted to narcotics. Methadone maintenance treatment programs have been shown to decrease criminal behavior, improve psychosocial functioning, and decrease injecting narcotic use, thus reducing the spread of AIDS. For primary care physicians, knowing when and how to refer a patient to methadone maintenance treatment, as well as ensuring ongoing liaison with the treatment program, can help improve the quality and continuity of care for addicted patients.

Twenty patients underwent bilateral sagittal ramus osteotomy for the correction of mandibular retrognathia. A condylar positioning device (CPD) was used intraoperatively in 10 patients to maintain preoperative condyle-proximal segment position, while the CPD was not used in the other 10 patients.
