Routine lateral tomography of the temporomandibular joint has resulted in a three-fold increase in the detection of positive findings. BACKGROUND: The clinical degradation rate and strength of biodegradable implant exposed to postoperative radiotherapy (PORT) are unknown.
METHODS: A prospective randomized control trial of 40 consecutive mandibulotomy patients randomly divided into titanium and biodegradable cohorts. All patients received PORT. The following parameters were compared: maximal mouth opening, occlusal force, center of force trajectory, occlusal status, radiographic evidence of bony union, mandibular function impairment questionnaire (MFIQ), overall satisfaction score, and complication rates.

Nowadays the exclusive intraoral approach is standard in the operative treatment of mandibular fractures. However there is still scepticism in the selection of the intraoral approach for mandibular reconstruction. Cystic lesions appearing in the maxilla and mandible have been shown with their typical radiographic features. In addition, this article has presented radiographic techniques used to diagnose these lesions. Cysts of the jaws are classified into two categories: odontogenic and nonodontogenic. Key features to differentiate among these cysts have been discussed. Finally, the article discussed the differentiation of jaw cysts from benign tumors that appear in the jaws.

Two cases of Congenital Epulis of the Newborn, one treated by surgical removal, the other conservatively, are presented. In both patients the dentition erupted normally and although after five years a residual swelling remains in the patient treated conservatively, it is asymptomatic. It is suggested that the natural history of the congenital epulis is one of regression, and no treatment is required unless the lesion causes feeding or respiratory problems.

The natural history and histologic characteristics of a rare malignant neoplasm of tendons and aponeuroses are described, and a case is presented which originated in the right foot of a 19-year-old Caucasian woman who succumbed to the disease after 4 years. This case represents the first known example of metastasis to the oral cavity of this particular neoplasm.
