Lethal restrictive dermopathy is genodermatoses associated with lamin protein defects resulting in connective tissue abnormalities of skin, musculoskeletal, and adipose tissue. We report one such case with a mutation in the ZMPSTE24 gene which is involved in lamin protein synthesis, resulting in fetal akinesia or hypokinesia deformation sequence. Early recognition in the perinatal period of distinctive clinical and skin histological features followed by molecular diagnosis enabled genetic counseling for the affected family.

Bilateral congenital knee dislocation is a rare deformity which may present with other musculoskeletal abnormalities. In the early period, conservative treatment options have a high chance of success. However, in later stages, surgical treatment is indicated in neglected or unresponsive cases to manipulation in the early period. Herein, we present a rare case of bilateral congenital knee dislocation which was diagnosed after birth. Retrospective examination revealed that it occurred in the antenatal period and neglected.

We introduced abatacept (ABT) in a very early rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patient with active tenosynovitis of hands defined by musculoskeletal ultrasonography (MSKUS). MSKUS-proven tenosynovitis remarkably improved at 2 months in spite of clinical exacerbation, followed by clinical remission at 5 months. MSKUS abnormalities also disappeared. Although ABT was discontinued due to an adverse event after the sixth infusion, she remained in clinical remission as well as imaging remission by MSKUS at 13 months.

Studies on hypermobility have aroused great interest in the last decades, as they are associated to musculoskeletal disorders, as well as abnormalities in several organic systems, such as the mitral valve prolapse. Therefore, in this study, data on the association between joint hypermobility and the mitral valve prolapse were investigated and reviewed. Studies in the literature have shown that genetic alterations in the collagen composition seem to be the main cause of this association.

Möbius' syndrome is a rare congenital anomaly characterized by paralysis of the 7th and other cranial nerves and musculoskeletal abnormalities. We report a patient with Möbius' syndrome associated with arthrogryposis and mega cisterna magna in addition to the classic components of this syndrome. The case is interesting because she developed Wilms' tumor at 21 months of age. To our knowledge, this is the first case of this association reported in the literature.

CDH patients are critically ill but can expect excellent survival if other serious anomalies are not present; however, significant long-term morbidities exist in the survivors. The most notable of these are developmental delay, poor growth, gastroesophageal reflux disease, hearing loss, and musculoskeletal abnormalities. Patients require careful long-term follow-up for these problems, and caregivers must continue to critically evaluate their medical interventions in the neonatal period to try to minimize these morbidities.

We report a case of malignant hyperthermia in a man of 41 years during his 13th general anaesthesia. All previous anaesthetics were quite normal. Musculoskeletal abnormalities and increased CPK-levels are to be found in some members of the patient's family. The combined use of suxamethonium and halothane might have caused the development of malignant hyperthermia. As a concept of the aetiology of the syndrome the case history indicates that it may be stress-related.

We summarize the results and clinical usefulness of cytogenetic analysis that is routinely performed for musculoskeletal tumors. We performed cytogenetic analysis and traditional histologic evaluation on 101 (51 malignant/ 50 benign) consecutive tumors that were surgically excised. The successful culture rate for cytogenetic analysis was 86% (87/101). Fifty-four percent (25/46) of clearly malignant tumors that were successfully cultured demonstrated significant clonal abnormalities.
