Cancer of the gall bladder is a rare malignant neoplasm with an unfavourable prognosis. Laparoscopic surgery has brought about the emergence of possible neoplastic diffusion along trocar tracts in cases where unrecognized carcinoma of the gall bladder is present. The authors present a case of neoplastic abdominal diffusion discovered 4 months after laparoscopic cholecystectomy in which histologic examination of the surgical specimen revealed the presence of unrecognized carcinoma of the gall bladder.

This paper deals with 4,728 autopsy records collected at Roswell Park Memorial Institute, Department of Pathology. 1,436 adenocarcinomas provided the data to test whether certain adenocarcinomas had a higher propensity to seed metastatic organs than others. The data were subdiveded into four categories depending on the presence or absence of metastases at two keysites, i.e., lungs and liver. Metastatic keysites are defined as those organs whose chances of being seeded are the highest. An hour before nephrectomy 10 patients with hypernephroma and 2 with pyonephrosis underwent occlusion of the renal arteries with gelfoam via selective catheterization, using the Seldinger percutaneous technique. This technique facilitated the operation by collapsing the renal and perirenal veins, decreased blood loss and prevented the dissemination of tumor cells or septic emboli from organ manipulation.

Peritoneal seeding (PS) of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is uncommon, and the clinicopathological features are poorly understood. A total of 181 autopsy cases of HCC, including 171 cases with detailed clinical information, was investigated for PS and evaluated. BACKGROUND: port-site metastases (PSM) have been reported following oncological laparoscopic surgery. However, their frequency after laparoscopic examination in gastric cancer has not been well established.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: prospective follow-up of 41 patients having had a staging laparoscopy and a follow-up longer than 12 months. Mean age was 65 years (29-89). After staging, an open gastrectomy was performed in 33 cases. Mean follow-up was 21.4 (12-66) months. PSM was defined as a node in the former port-site wound with adenocarcinoma histology at biopsy.

INTRODUCTION: Extracranial metastases of pineal germinomas are rare.
CASE REPORT: The case of a metastasis of a primary intracranial germ cell tumor via a temporary-ventriculo-peritoneal shunt as a cause of acute abdominal pain is reported. The germ cell tumor markers were useful in establishing the diagnosis.
CONCLUSIONS: With an appropriate clinical history, intra-abdominal metastases via a temporary ventriculo-peritoneal shunt should be considered in the differential diagnosis of acute abdominal pain.
