To determine the clinical prevalence of medium-sized (1.5- to 19.9-cm-diameter) congenital-nevus-like nevi (CNLN), a consecutive series of 601 patients (mostly adults) had total cutaneous examinations. In this series, 15 (2.5%) were found to have such lesions. In addition, 14 (2.3%) had nevi spili and 83 (13.8%) had café au lait spots. All three types of lesions were equally represented in both sexes and tended to spare the head, neck, and upper extremities. Compared with CNLN, nevi spili were found to have significantly larger diameters and lower mean age, suggesting that these are different

BACKGROUND: Malignant melanoma is becoming an increasingly important problem in public health as incidence rates have been increasing continuously in Caucasian populations. Childhood and adolescence is an important time of life for the formation and evolution of nevi, and the presence of a higher number of nevi in early life could predict a major risk of developing melanoma.
OBJECTIVES: (1) To determine the number of nevi and the dermoscopic pattern predominance in children of our population. (2) To relate it to constitutional and environmental factors.

Longitudinal melanonychia in children is usually caused by nail matrix nevi and often fades over time. Pediatric patients with this finding are frequently referred to dermatologists due to concerns that it may represent melanoma. We report a case of a 4-year-old girl with longitudinal melanonychia on the left second fingernail, accompanied by pigmented dots in the cuticle that persisted after the melanonychia had faded.

Desmoplastic hairless hypopigmented nevus is an extremely rare sclerotic, alopecic, and progressively hypopigmented giant congenital melanocytic nevus, which is histologically characterized by an intense desmoplasia. A significant trend toward spontaneous involution has been described. We report a case of desmoplastic hairless hypopigmented nevus that underwent a progressive depigmentation associated with loss of its woody consistency. The loss of induration appears to be the main marker for the complete regression of these nevi.

Rounded and velvety epidermal naevus, naevoid acanthosis nigricans, also called the acanthosis nigricans form of epidermal naevus is an extremely rare entity, with fewer than 15 cases described in the literature. We report the case of a 23-year-old woman with asymptomatic velvety verrucous plaques on her left axilla starting at the age of 14. As far as we know this is the first case of such a verrucous form with only axillar involvement of naevoid acanthosis nigricans. We report this rare case, and we make a brief review of the clinical pathophysiology and treatment of this uncommon tumour.
