The Emotional Freedom Technique: Finally, a Unifying Theory for the Practice of Holistic Nursing, or Too Good to Be True?

The Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is defined and described as a clinical procedure for the relief of psychological and physical distress that patients often bring to the attention of nurses. Frequently referred to as "tapping," this technique combines the cognitive reprocessing benefits of exposure and acceptance therapy with the energetic disturbance releases associated with acupuncture and other energy therapies. More than 60 research articles in peer-reviewed journals report a staggering 98% efficacy rate with the use of this procedure from psychological distress (posttraumatic stress d

Parenting, family life, and well-being among sexual minorities: nursing policy and practice implications.

Parenting and family life are fundamental social constructs in human society and in law and public policy. Family structures and support systems provide important economic and psychological advantages for parents as well as for their children. Stigma toward lesbian and gay parents often marginalize individuals in these families and restrict family members' full expression of social citizenship, humanity, and personhood. Stigma directly contributes to increased risk for substance abuse, anxiety, and depressive illness among both parents and children. This article reviews the relevant policy lit

Practice possibilities for nurses choosing true presence with persons who live with a different sense of hearing.

Living with a different sense of hearing is a silencing experience that can change persons'patterns of relating and even deprive them of effective ways to give and receive messages with other human beings. People who live with having a different sense of hearing are often stigmatized, labeled, and judged by nurses, healthcare professionals, and family members alike. This column examines practice possibilities for nurses who choose the human becoming way of being with persons living with a different sense of hearing.

Substance abuse and HIV: considerations with regard to methamphetamines and other recreational drugs for nursing practice and research.

Substance use continues to be closely associated with both HIV infection and treatment considerations in all at-risk populations. Among those groups heretofore not well characterized epidemiologically or clinically are those dual-risk men who have sex with other men (MSM) and use and/or inject drugs. Of particular current concern with regard to drug-using MSM is the growth in popularity of a group of recreational or so-called party drugs associated with specific social and sexual environments and networks. Chief among these drugs are hallucinogens, such as MDMA, ketamine, and GHB, and stimulan

Remote Patient Monitoring in Hospital at Home: Bibliometric Analysis of the Field and Scoping Review of Nursing Practice.

AIM: To map the research landscape of remote patient monitoring-enabled hospital at home (RPM-HaH) and delineate the core domains of nursing practice within this care model. BACKGROUND: RPM-HaH has emerged as a key strategy to alleviate hospital capacity pressures driven by population ageing and rising multimorbidity. Despite its clinical viability, the structural positioning and substantive practice of nursing within this model remain poorly defined. METHODS: A two-stage integrative design was employed. Stage one involved a bibliometric analysis of literature indexed in Web of Science, Scop
