Open Reduction and Internal Fixation for Vancouver B1 and B2 Periprosthetic Femoral Fractures: A Proportional Meta-Analysis.

PURPOSE: Periprosthetic femoral fracture (PFF) is a common complication after total hip arthroplasty, and open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) is a common surgical treatment. We conducted a meta-analysis to compare the outcomes of ORIF in patients with different fracture patterns (Vancouver B1 and B2). MATERIALS AND METHODS: We conducted a systematic search of PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library and KoreaMed from inception to August 2022. We conducted a pair-wise meta-analysis (with a fixed-effects model) on the 10 comparative studies and a proportional meta-analysis on the data from the

A nomogram for predicting post-operative wound complications after open reduction and internal fixation for calcaneal fractures.

The purpose of our study was to determine the risk factors for post-operative wound complications (PWCs) after open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) for calcaneal fracture and establish a nomogram prediction model. We retrospectively analysed the clinical data of patients who suffered from calcaneal fractures and had been surgically treated for ORIF in our institution between January 2010 and January 2020. Perioperative information was obtained through the electronic medical record system, univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to determine the risk factors of PWCs, and a no

Complications After Open Reduction and Internal Fixation for Distal Radius Fractures in Patients With and Without Rheumatoid Arthritis.

PURPOSE: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) can have severe impact on patients' functional abilities and increase the risk of fragility fractures. Little is known about how patients with RA fare after operative management of distal radius fractures. The purpose of this study was to compare postoperative complications after surgical fixation in patients with RA and controls, hypothesizing that patients with RA would have higher levels of postoperative complications. METHODS: Patients were identified using Current Procedural Terminology and International Classification of Diseases, Ninth and Tenth Revis

Open Reduction Internal Fixation of Simple Versus Comminuted Radial Head Fractures: Comparison of Clinical Outcomes.

PURPOSE: Current teaching suggests that modified Mason type III and IV fractures of the radial head involving more than 3 fragments should be treated with radial head arthroplasty. The purpose of this study was to compare the outcome of simple (2 or fewer intra-articular pieces) versus comminuted (3 or more intra-articular pieces) radial head fractures treated with open reduction internal fixation (ORIF). METHODS: This was a retrospective review of 35 patients with modified Mason type III and IV fractures treated with ORIF. For the purpose of our study, simple fractures were defined as having

Complications associated with open reduction and internal fixation for adult distal humerus fractures: a multicenter retrospective study.

BACKGROUND: Open reduction and plate fixation are the preferred treatment options for most distal humerus fractures in adults. However, it is often challenging for orthopedic surgeons because of the complex anatomy and the difficulty in achieving stable fixation. This multicenter study aimed to analyze the complication types and rates of patients with distal humerus fractures treated with open reduction and plate fixation, and compare the results with those found in the literature. In addition, we describe the clinical outcomes. METHODS: This retrospective multicenter study was conducted betw

Periprosthetic knee fractures in an elderly population: open reduction and internal fixation vs distal femur megaprostheses.

Autoimmune diseases (ADs) are common conditions in which an individual's immune system reacts against its healthy cells. This condition is a common cause of morbidity and mortality, with an estimated prevalence ranging from 5 per 100,000 to more than 500 per 100,000. According to the National Stem Cell Foundation (NSCF), ADs are prevalent in about 4% of the world's population, which creates a burden on society due to the high treatment cost. ADs show a clear gender bias with a higher prevalence among women, occurring at a rate of 2:1 female-to-male ratio. The etiology of ADs includes genetic a

Volumetric Evaluated Bone Resorption After Open Reduction and Internal Fixation of Condylar Head Fractures of the Mandible.

PURPOSE: Decision making in the management of condylar head fractures remains difficult due to its dependency on multiple factors like fracture type, degree of dislocation, patient`s age and dental condition. As open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) of condylar head fractures (CHFs) becomes more popular, the question of osteosynthesis removal is controversial. So far, information on volumetric changes after ORIF are available for a short-term period (<6 months) only. This study, therefore, was performed to assess bone resorption after condylar head fractures and to follow-up intermediate

Does Traction Decrease the Need for Open Reduction in Femoral Shaft Fractures Treated Within 24 Hours?

This study evaluates whether preoperative skeletal traction reduces the need for open reduction in femoral shaft fractures treated with intramedullary nailing (IMN) within 24 hours. A retrospective review was conducted of femoral shaft fractures undergoing IMN within 1 day of admission. Primary outcome was an open reduction at the time of IMN. Secondary outcomes were blood loss and transfusion requirements. One hundred eighty-four patients were analyzed, 106 in the knee immobilizer group and 78 in the skeletal traction group. Skeletal traction did not reduce the need for an open reduction. The

Causes and treatment outcomes of revision surgery after open reduction and internal fixation of tibial plateau fractures.

PURPOSE: Treatment of a tibial plateau fracture (TPF) remains controversial and is generally challenging. Many authors report good results after conventional open reduction and internal fixation in TPF, but complications still occur. This study analyzed causes and outcomes of revision surgery for TPF. The usefulness of a flow chart for revision surgery in TPF was also evaluated. METHODS: We reviewed all patients who underwent more than two operations for a TPF between 2008 and 2015. Finally, 24 cases were selected and retrospectively investigated. The medial tibial plateau angle and proximal
