"In rape cases we can use this pill": a multimethods assessment of emergency contraception knowledge, access, and needs on the Thailand-Burma border.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate availability, service delivery, and barriers to access to emergency contraceptive pills (ECPs) along the Thailand-Burma border. METHODS: From June 2010 to May 2011 we undertook a multimethods qualitative assessment among cross-border populations, migrants, and refugees. We conducted 46 key informant interviews with representatives from 25 organizations, 18 focus group discussions with migrant adults, migrant adolescents, and healthcare workers, and a service mapping exercise with 22 stakeholders. RESULTS: We found low use of ECPs among the target populations. Structur

Workplace assaults on nursing assistants in US nursing homes: a multilevel analysis.

OBJECTIVES: We examined risk factors for injuries to nursing assistants from assaults by nursing home residents at both the individual and the organizational level. METHODS: We analyzed data from the 2004 National Nursing Assistant Survey that were linked to facility information from the 2004 National Nursing Home Survey by use of multilevel modeling that accounted for the complex survey design effect. RESULTS: Thirty-four percent of nursing assistants surveyed reported experiencing physical injuries from residents' aggression in the previous year. Mandatory overtime (odds ratio [OR] = 1.65;

Duration of nonmethadone outpatient treatment: results from a national survey.

OBJECTIVES: This study examined organizational trends from 1990 to 2000 and unit characteristics associated with the duration of nonmethadone outpatient addiction treatment. METHODS: Program directors and clinical supervisors from a nationally representative panel of nonmethadone outpatient units in the United States were surveyed in 1990, 1995, and 2000. Treatment duration was measured from clinical supervisors' reports of the average length of stay. Negative binominal regression models controlled for multivariate effects. RESULTS: Treatment duration modestly declined between 1990 and 2000

Visualization of pure phase objects with optical spatial differentiation operations.

Phase distributions typically contain richer information about the morphology, structure, and organizational properties of a sample than intensity distributions. However, due to the weak scattering and absorption properties of pure phase objects, intensity measurements are unable to provide information about the phase, making it more challenging to reveal phase structure from the incident light background. Here, we propose a method for visualizing phase objects through simple optical reflection occurring at a glass interface. By exploiting the spin-orbit interaction of light and the Brewster e

Scaling Caregiver Health and Wellbeing Coaching: A Mixed Methods Evaluation of Implementation and Sustainment in the Veterans Health Administration.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Effective and sustainable support for family caregivers is a growing priority, yet practical guidance for scaling promising coaching interventions into routine practice is limited. The objective of this evaluation was to identify organizational determinants, barriers, facilitators, and adaptations affecting national implementation of the Caregiver Health and Wellbeing Coaching (CHWC) program in the Veterans Health Administration. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: An explanatory, sequential mixed‑methods design included surveys of CHWC staff (n = 53) and qualitative inter

Consent to Medical Data Processing Among Adult Primary Care Patients: Associations with Vaccination Behaviour and Healthcare Trust.

Background: The secondary use of routinely collected medical data is increasingly important for healthcare research and public health. However, the validity and representativeness of consent-based datasets depend on patients' willingness to allow their medical information to be used. Although vaccination behaviour and trust in healthcare systems have both been extensively studied, little is known about their relationship with consent to medical data processing. Objective: This study aimed to identify factors associated with consent to medical data processing among adult primary care patients,

Multi-level determinants of comprehensive palliative care delivery for breast and cervical cancer patients in Ethiopia: using the socio-ecological model as an analytical framework.

INTRODUCTION: Comprehensive palliative care is essential for improving the quality of life of women with breast and cervical cancer in Ethiopia, yet services remain poorly organized, largely inaccessible, and concentrated in the capital. While existing studies have quantified service gaps, the multi-level determinants enabling or hindering comprehensive care remain under-explored, particularly how these factors differ between urban and rural settings. OBJECTIVE: To explore the multi-level determinants of implementing comprehensive palliative care for women with breast and cervical cancer in E

Psychological and Organizational Factors Associated With Professional Commitment Among Newly Graduated Psychiatric Nurses: Exploring the Roles of Workplace Anxiety, Spiritual Leadership, and Error Management Climate.

BACKGROUND: Newly graduated psychiatric nurses often experience challenges during the transition to professional practice, which may influence their professional commitment. Although workplace anxiety represents an important psychological factor, organizational factors such as spiritual leadership and error management climate may also contribute to variations in professional commitment. However, the relationships among these psychological and organizational factors remain insufficiently understood. OBJECTIVE: To examine the associations of workplace anxiety, spiritual leadership, and error ma

Electronic Documentation Practice and Its Correlated Factors Among Medical-Surgical Nurses in Selected Hospitals in Texas, USA.

INTRODUCTION: Nursing documentation provides evidence of the care delivered by clearly accounting for what occurred and when it occurred. Despite the overall importance of electronic documentation, available evidence shows significant limitations in good practice. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to describe the electronic documentation practice and its correlated factors among medical and surgical ward nurses in four selected hospitals in Texas, USA. METHODS: The descriptive correlational study involved 379 medical-surgical nurses recruited through proportionate non-probability sampling from fou

Drug checking services: barriers and facilitators to implementation by U.S. syringe services programs.

BACKGROUND: Syringe services programs (SSPs) provide evidence-based services to prevent the spread of disease and reduce overdose mortality among people who use drugs. To address unacceptably high levels of overdose, some SSPs have implemented advanced drug checking services (DCS) to identify illicitly manufactured fentanyl, xylazine, and other unexpected substances in local drug supplies. Advanced DCS improve people's knowledge of the illicit drug market and can support widescale dissemination of information for monitoring and evaluation of drug supply trends. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the b

The burned patient in times of COVID-19: proposal derived from lessons learned.

COVID-19 is a public health problem, so any burn patient who is managed as an outpatient or requires hospital management is a potential carrier of SARS-CoV-2. Burn patients are susceptible to COVID-19 due to the burn and its immunosuppressive effect, the procedures they undergo and other factors related to the burn, which makes them at high risk of contracting the disease and transmitting it, especially to the healthcare team involved in its management. Therefore, it is important to organize strategies in the services that care for burn patients during the COVID-19 pandemic. The objective of t
