Familial Sjögren's syndrome with associated primary salivary gland lymphoma.

Primary salivary gland lymphoma has been rarely documented in patients with or without Sjögren's syndrome. The association of disseminated lymphoreticular neoplasms with Sjögren's syndrome has been recognized, and the malignancy is usually widespread at the time of diagnosis. Familial occurrence of Sjögren's syndrome is likewise infrequently observed. In the present report we describe a patient with Sjögren's syndrome in whom a primary parotid gland lymphoma subsequently developed. In addition to the propositus, two of four siblings had definite evidence of Sjögren's syndrome and a third had s

Pleomorphic Adenoma of the Soft Palate: Case Report.

Background: Pleomorphic adenoma is the most prevalent benign tumor of the salivary glands. While it primarily affects the parotid gland, it can also arise from minor salivary glands in the soft palate. Presentation: A case of a 28-year-old female who presented with a painless, slowly enlarging mass on the soft palate was reported. CT revealed a well-circumscribed lesion measuring 2.5 × 2.0 cm. Complete surgical excision was performed, and histopathological analysis confirmed the diagnosis of pleomorphic adenoma. Conclusion: Pleomorphic adenoma of the palate is an important entity to consider i

Pleural fluid metastases of myoepithelial carcinoma: A case report and review of the literature.

Myoepithelial carcinoma (MECA) is one of the rarest salivary gland neoplasms, which may either arise de novo or develop within a preexisting pleomorphic adenoma or benign myoepithelioma. The tumor occurs mainly in the parotid gland followed by minor salivary glands and other body sites. As a result of their morphologic heterogeneity, they can be confused easily with many tumors. Awareness of their unique cytoarchitectural patterns and immunohistochemical profile is crucial for accurate identification. Herein, we report a rare case of a 51-year-old female patient with MECA of the maxillary sinu

Sclerosing polycystic adenosis: a case report.

About 70 to 80 percent of all salivary gland neoplasms, the majority of which are benign, arise in the parotid gland. Sclerosing Polycystic Adenosis (SPA) is a relatively unknown and newly described entity that is considered to be benign in nature. A 55-year-old patient was treated for SPA in our hospital. The diagnostic work-up consisted of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC) and histological examination. However, in our case, both the cytological appearance, which usually has a high accuracy in discriminating benign from malignant lesions, and the appeara

Comparative transcriptomics of salivary basal cell adenoma and adenocarcinoma sustain linear neoplastic evolution and intertumor heterogeneity: classification and biological implications.

It remains uncertain whether basal cell adenoma (BCA) and basal cell adenocarcinoma (BCAC) of the salivary gland represent two distinct neoplasms or temporal stages of a single entity. The issue is central to reconciling their shared phenotypic resemblance and protracted behavior with current pathologic classification. We conducted a transcriptomic analysis on a cohort of both pathologic forms and correlated the findings with the clinicopathologic features using RNA extracted from fresh frozen samples of 25 salivary basal tumors (five BCAs and 20 BCACs) and eight instances of metastatic basal

Salivary Duct Carcinoma Arising in a Warthin Tumor of the Parotid Gland: A Rare Case Report with Review of Literature and PD-L1 Expression.

Warthin's tumor is the second most common neoplasm of the parotid gland and consists of 2 components, including lymphoid stroma and glandular epithelium. Malignant transformation in this tumor is mostly seen in the lymphoid component; however, the carcinomatous transformation of the epithelial component is extremely rare. Cases of latter reported in the literature include squamous cell carcinoma, adenocarcinoma, mucoepidermoid carcinoma, oncocytic carcinoma, Merkel cell carcinoma, and undifferentiated carcinoma. We describe an extremely rare case of salivary duct carcinoma arising in a Warthin

Myoepithelial carcinoma of the parotid gland with a novel CTCF::NCOA2 fusion.

We describe a case of a myoepithelial carcinoma of the superficial parotid gland in a 46-year-old male harboring a novel CTCF::NCOA2 gene fusion. To our knowledge, this novel gene fusion has not been described previously in myoepithelial carcinoma. A 46-year-old male patient presented with a mass involving the superficial left parotid gland with extension into the external auditory canal (EAC) and erosion of the conchal cartilage. Histologically, the neoplasm was composed of uniform spindled, epithelioid/ovoid cells arranged in cords and nests within hyalinized to myxoid stroma. On immunohisto

Myoepithelial Carcinoma Arising in a Plasmacytoid Myoepithelioma of the Parotid Gland Synchronized with Melanoma: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Myoepithelial carcinoma, also known as malignant myoepithelioma, is considered an extremely rare (0.45-1%) malignant salivary gland neoplasm. Approximately 100 cases have been reported in the English-language literature on myoepithelial carcinoma. The majority of the myoepitheliomas described in the literature have been benign, and the malignant counterpart is considered rare (<1%). Such a tumor may appear de novo or rarely develop from a preexisting pleomorphic adenoma (<20%), and in exceedingly rare cases (<0.5%), it has arisen from a benign myoepithelioma (i.e., plasmacytoid myoepithelioma)

An extremely rare case of interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma of the parotid gland with a 40‑month disease‑free survival time after only surgery: A case report.

Interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma (IDCS) is an extremely rare neoplasm arising from dendritic cells and is mainly located in the lymph nodes. To the best of our knowledge, no treatment strategy has yet been established for IDCS, despite its aggressive clinical features. The present study presents the case of a patient with IDCS who experienced a 40-month disease-free survival time after surgery alone. The patient, a 29-year-old woman, presented with a painful right subaural swelling. Diagnostic MRI and 18F-fludeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography revealed a right p

Surgical management of pleomorphic adenoma of parotid gland in elderly patients: role of morphological features.

The neoplasms of the salivary glands account for 2% of head and neck tumors and the most common form is the Pleomorphic adenoma (PA). Parotid gland is affected from 80% to 90% of cases. In elderly these tumors occur mostly in females. These benign tumors are composed of epithelial and myoepithelial cells that are arranged with various morphological patterns and subtypes. The classification of these tumors is also based on the amount and nature of the stroma. In literature there is an almost complete consensus that, in the major salivary glands, PAs are enclosed by a layer of fibrous tissue oft

Facial paralysis after superficial parotidectomy: analysis of possible predictors of this complication.

INTRODUCTION: Salivary gland tumors represent 3-10% of all head and neck neoplasms. These tumors occur predominantly in major salivary glands. The parotid gland is affected most often, ranging from 36.6% to 83%. The pleomorphic adenoma comprises 45-60% of all salivary gland tumors. Several surgical approaches have been described to treat this tumor. Lesion of the facial nerve is one of the most serious complications that can occur after parotid gland surgery. OBJECTIVES: To determine possible predictive factors related to the occurrence of peripheral facial paralysis (PFP) after superficial p

Endoscopic versus conventional open parotid gland surgery: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Endoscopically-assisted parotid gland surgery has been increasingly adopted as a minimally invasive alternative to conventional open parotidectomy, aiming to improve perioperative outcomes and cosmetic results while maintaining surgical safety. This systematic review and meta-analysis synthesized contemporary comparative evidence on endoscopic versus conventional parotid gland surgery. A comprehensive search of PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science, CENTRAL, and Google Scholar was conducted from inception to December 14, 2025. Observational and interventional studies comparing endoscopically-

Recurrent Pleomorphic Adenoma Presenting as a Giant Parapharyngeal Mass.

Introduction: Pleomorphic adenoma (PA) is the most common benign salivary gland tumor, primarily found in the parotid gland. Recurrences often extend into the parapharyngeal space (PPS), complicating management. This report presents a case of a recurrent giant PA in the PPS following a limited excision. Case Description: A 45-year-old male presented with a gradually enlarging neck mass, dysphagia, and mild dyspnea, having previously undergone limited excision of a PA. Clinical examination revealed a firm mass in the right parotid region. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a large mass in

Concurrent Warthin tumor and Kimura disease: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Warthin tumor (WT) is a common benign salivary tumor of the parotid gland. Clinically, it occurs in men in their fifth to seventh decades who typically smoke cigarettes. WTs have been reported with different head and neck neoplasms and other salivary gland tumors within the same or another salivary gland. Kimura disease (KD) is a rare chronic inflammatory disease with unknown etiology affecting young to middle-aged Asian men. KD presents as an asymptomatic nodule in the head and neck area, with regional lymphadenopathy and salivary gland involvement. CASE PRESENTATION: A 64-year-o

Does three-dimensional intraglandular location predict malignancy in parotid tumors?

Tumors arising within the parotid encompass a heterogeneous mix of benign and malignant neoplasms and other tissue growths. The purpose of this study was to determine the association between the location of intraparotid masses and the risk of malignancy. A retrospective cohort study was performed of patients diagnosed with parotid tumors following open tumor excision. The primary predictor variable was the location of the epicenter of the tumor in three-dimensional space, as determined from preoperative imaging. Other variables were patient demographics and clinical parameters. The primary out

Salivary gland tumours in Iceland 1986-2015: a nationwide epidemiological analysis over a 30-year time period.

Salivary gland tumours (SGT) are a vast and heterogenous group of neoplasms. There is a relative lack of comprehensive nationwide epidemiological studies on the subject. The aim of this nationwide analysis was to gain insight into epidemiological traits, such as site, incidence and histological subtypes of SGT in general. Patients diagnosed with a primary SGT between 1986 and 2015 were identified from The Icelandic Cancer Registry and registries from all pathology departments in Iceland. Information on age, sex, tumour location and histology was retrieved from pathology reports. A total of 687

Multiple myopericytoma of the face and parotid gland.

Myopericytoma is a benign tumor that is composed of myoid-appearing oval to spindle-shaped cells with a concentric perivascular pattern of growth. The tumor is morphologically heterogeneous and can exhibit a broad histologic spectrum. We describe a case of multiple myopericytoma occurring in the head and neck skin region with involvement of the parotid gland where it is known to occur very rarely. A 40-year-old woman noticed multiple enlarging, painless, round-shaped masses on her left cheek. The patient had experienced a similar lesion of the same area 8 years earlier which was completely exc
