Topical sucralfate in post-adenotonsillectomy analgesia in children: a double-blind randomized clinical trial.

OBJECTIVES: Tonsillectomy, with or without adenoidectomy, is one of the most common surgical procedures in pediatric otolaryngology. Despite its relative simplicity, pain is the main cause of morbidity in the postoperative period. We determined the effect of topical sucralfate on reduction of oropharyngeal pain in children submitted to adenotonsillectomy. Secondary outcomes were otalgia, analgesic use, type of diet, secondary bleeding, vomiting, fever, and weight loss. STUDY DESIGN: Double-blind, randomized clinical trial. SETTING: Tertiary hospital. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: Eighty-two childre

Preserving scientific integrity in academic publishing: Navigating artificial intelligence, journal policies and the impact factor as a quality indicator.

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI), the rise of mega-journals, and the manipulation of impact factors present challenges to scientific integrity. These trends threaten the core principles of objectivity, reproducibility, and transparency. This editorial highlights two categories of threats: (1) external pressures, such as AI misuse and metric-driven publishing models, and (2) internal systemic flaws, including the 'publish or perish' culture and methodological fragility. Mega-journals, characterized by high-volume publishing and broad interdisciplinary scopes, improve accessibilit

Global research trends on the interaction between gut microbiome and bile acids: a bibliometric and visualized analysis.

BACKGROUND: An increasing number of studies have shown that gut microbiome-bile acids interactions play a crucial role in host health and disease. This bibliometric analysis aims to identify the global scientific output, research hotspots, and frontiers of gut microbiome-bile acids in the past two decades. METHODS: We searched the relevant studies of gut microbiome-bile acids published between 2004 and 2024 in the Web of Science Core Collection database. Microsoft Excel 2019, VOSviewer 1.6.18, Tableau Desktop 2024.2.2, Scimago Graphica 1.0.45, and CiteSpace 6.2.R3 were used to analyze the pub

BACKGROUND: Although scleroatrophic gallbladder is a rare condition, it presents significant clinical challenges in diagnosis and management. More agreement is needed on this disorder's diagnostic criteria and optimal management approach. We will conduct a systematic review to summarise the scleroatrophic gallbladder's preoperative diagnostic criteria, including imaging modalities. METHODS: A systematic review will be undertaken using the PRISMA guidelines. The protocol has been registered in PROSPERO (CRD42024503701). Review of the Influences of Sex Differences on Health and Disease: What Is the Role of Journals?

➢ Sex-based differences are understudied, which has potential consequences for the health of everyone.➢ Women's health is particularly affected given a lack of sex-specific data across many disease states.➢ Journals do not consistently require the inclusion of both sexes and the disaggregation of data by sex in cell, animal model, and human studies.➢ Instructions for investigators and journals regarding the inclusion of sex-specific data are found in guidelines such as those by the Sex and Gender Equity in Research (SAGER) group, but these guidelines are underutilized.➢ Consistency in the incl
