BACKGROUND: The occurrence of nonunion after tibial fracture surgery is mainly related to insufficient blood supply. Therefore, anatomical s … around the blood vessel was preliminarily removed after solidification. The perivascular tissue and periosteum were further removed via alkali corrosion, and the tibia was fixed with an external fixator to protect the non-corrosive areas at both ends. Alternate acid corrosion and flushing were then applied until the intraosseous artery was completely exposed …

We report an unusual case of a solitary periosteal chondroma presenting as a snapping finger and pain in the ring finger in a 37-year-old man. The snapping symptom was caused by impingement of this solitary chondroma. In this case, the periosteal chondroma was detached due to a finger sprain. Thus, the solitary chondroma was impinged between basal phalanx and extensor tendon, causing the pain and snapping finger. When patients with snapping finger present, CT scans can be helpful to make a correct diagnosis. To the best of our knowledge, this condition has not been described in the PIP joint.

BACKGROUND: Assessment of bone formation activity is an important component of pharmacologic efficacy and toxicity evaluations for compounds in development for osteoporosis therapies. Antemortem biomarkers of bone formation and remodeling in rodents are uncommon. While the periosteal alkaline phosphatase (ALP) assay is a postmortem and laborious means of testing bone-building activity, the semiautomated ALP isoenzyme assay is an antemortem assay that is performed on an automated chemistry analyzer after 2 simple dilutions of the initial serum sample and a short incubation.
OBJECTIVES: The goa

Prostaglandin administration is the main therapy for ductal-dependent congenital heart disease prior to definitive therapy. We report a case in which tetralogy of Fallot and Noonan syndrome were diagnosed, complicated by small pulmonary arteries, which occasioned a delay in surgery. Treatment was started with prostaglandins, which were given for a total of 2 months, and a diffuse periosteal reaction occurred secondary to the administration of intravenous prostaglandin E1.

The author discusses a benign cartilaginous tumor involving the tubular bones, more frequently in the hand than the foot. Its rare occurrence in the second toe of an adult male is illustrated. Pain and swelling required excisional biopsy, whose diagnosis was aided by radiographic findings of calcification and cortical erosion.

We report a case of recurrent Mooren's ulcer treated with an autogenous periosteal graft. The eye responded well to this therapy. Final visual acuity was 20/40 with spectacle correction of +2.00 + 2.50 X 165.

Congenital lipomatosis may cause a fatty mass infiltrating muscle planes and extending into the epidural space. Adjacent structures are displaced: there is pressure erosion of the vertebrae and periosteal new bone formation.

A method is described for altering the shape and position of the palpebral fissure at the lateral canthus. Three steps are essential to alter shape and position. They are (1) identification of a lateral canthal soft-tissue mass consisting of periosteum, lateral canthal ligament, and orbicularis muscle, (2) extensive subperiosteal soft-tissue mobilization of the lateral canthal soft-tissue mass (LCSTM) from a point just superior to the zygomaticofrontal suture and inferiorly along the infraorbital rim to a point corresponding with a vertical line drawn from the pupil downward, and (3) cutting o…

A case of periosteal new bone formation in a 14-year-old girl with recurrent ulcerative colitis is reported. There was exacerbation of the periosteal new bone formation during acute episodes of colitis, and incorporation of the periosteal appositions into the underlying bone during remission.

An attempt has been made to provide an additional alternative to the treatment of zygomatic deformities. It is an approach that was used on a series of four patients but one that has met with success and satisfactory results in restoring more normal form and function. When performed correctly, the orbital tripod osteotomy is a physiologically and esthetically sound approach to the correction of the deformed or deficient cheek as a result of trauma or congenital malformation.

The authors undertook histological studies on the bone of the facial wall of the maxillary sinus from 64 out of 84 patients who had been operated on for chronic maxillary sinusitis of dental origin in the course of 16 months. Apart from mucosal changes, the specimens from 16 patients showed also osseous changes in the form of periosteal reactions of varying extent. With regard to therapy, it is concluded that patients suffering from odontogenic sinusitis should for preference be treated by surgical intervention, because the conservative treatment will not necessarily result in complete healing

BACKGROUND: Vertical bone augmentation in the posterior mandible presents significant challenges due to anatomical constraints and frequent … ng with the periosteal layer was elevated. The flap was rotated mesially and sutured to the lingual periosteum to achieve stable soft tissue augmentation. Finally, the overlying primary mucoperiosteal flap was sutured, resulting in a double-layered tissue closure. Two months later, three-dimensional ridge augmentation in the left mandibular premolar-molar re …

The nasal radix holds significant importance in facial aesthetics, sometimes requiring augmentation to create balanced facial profiles. A flat nasal radix can cause inadequate projection and the appearance of a pseudo-hump. In these cases, rhinoplasty surgeons should avoid working on the pseudo-hump and focus on elevating the radix to achieve the desired aesthetic outcome. Here, we introduce a novel approach and "how we do" the dorsal superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS) periosteal flap for nasal radix augmentation. Using an external septorhinoplasty approach, the initial dissection is
