BACKGROUND: Myxoid liposarcoma is the most common soft-tissue sarcoma that metastasizes to the peritoneal cavity. Recently, an advanced intensity-modulated radiotherapy, known as helical tomotherapy, has been introduced to improve target coverage, while reducing normal tissue radiation. Diagnostic peritoneal lavage (DPL) was used to aid in the rapid diagnosis of peritonitis in 138 patients for whom standard diagnostic criteria were not applicable because the patients had altered sensorium, were elderly, or had multiple medical problems. We present a case of bladder injury as a complication of gynaecological laparoscopic surgery. A young female presented with peritonitis, an acute systemic inflammatory response and biochemical features of acute renal failure secondary to urinary peritonitis. Laparotomy with drainage of urine from the peritoneal cavity and repair of the bladder perforation resulted in rapid resolution of the biochemical abnormalities.

Mesotheliomas are aggressive malignant tumors which can occur most commonly in the pleural space, however can occur in the peritoneum in those with an extensive history of asbestos exposure. Primary peritoneal mesothelioma is relatively rare and is a fatal diagnosis. The prognosis of primary peritoneal mesothelioma is very poor and individuals are at high risk of developing mesothelioma in another cavity within the first year after initial diagnosis.
