Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome is an autoimmune disease that impairs neuromuscular transmission. Several studies suggest that neurotransmitter release is reduced by an immune response directed against the calcium channel complex of nerve terminals. Two cases of acute eosinophilic pneumonia are described. The patients presented with an acute febrile illness, dry cough, severe hypoxemia and diffuse pulmonary infiltrates. Total cell count and the number of eosinophils were increased in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid. The TBLB specimen showed eosinophilic infiltration of alveolar walls and spaces. Biological studies suggest that a significant proportion of the cytotoxicity observed in mammalian cells after uv irradiation may be due to damage other than cyclobutane dimers in DNA. During a period of two years children with abacterial meningitis as well as bacterial meningitis were examined before treatment and later during disease. The new Netropsin praecipitation test according to Funke and coworkers was used to detect soluble fibrin monomer complexes. Asthenia, anorexia, fever, weight loss, dyspnea and cough developed insidiously over 3 months in a patient working in a farm and exposed to moldy organic dusts (hay and alfalfa). A new procedure, the radioimmunoprecipitation--P.E.G. assay (RIPEGA) is proposed for the detection of anti-IgG antibodies (anti-IgG Ab). This sensitive and reproducible test was performed by incubation of radio-labelled human IgG (125I-IgG) with patient's sera. Separation of free from complexed 125I-IgG was achieved by a 7% P.E.G. precipitation. Preliminary results demonstrated anti-IgG Ab in 84.4% of the cases of sero-positive rheumatoid arthritis (R.A.), 85% of seronegative R.A., 43% of other forms of inflammatory arthritis, 50% of unclassified arthritis and in 10.5% of the control subjects.
