The effects of intensive regimens and the roles of drugs used might differ between T- and B-lineage acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). We performed a literature search for clinical studies published from January 1998 to March 2013. Studies were eligible for inclusion in the analyses if they included more than 80 patients with adult ALL who were treated with a uniform regimen and compared T- and B-lineage ALL. Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) is a very rare complication of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). A Japanese boy presented with B-lineage ALL at the age of 2.5. He was treated with chemotherapy for standard-risk ALL. While he was receiving maintenance treatment 2 years and 9 months after the diagnosis of ALL, diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBL) was diagnosed from a biopsy of an abdominal mass. DLBL was treated by surgical resection followed by chemotherapy for 6 months. The patient has been free from the recurrence of ALL or DLBL for 16 months after the development of DLBL.

Hypereosinophilia (HE) is rare but often secondary to a nonhematologic disease such as allergic disorders and parasitic infections. We describe an extremely rare case of primary cardiac precursor B lymphoblastic lymphoma (B-LBL) in a 10-year-old boy who presented with nonspecific complaints of fatigue and vomiting for 2 weeks and an episode of syncope. Chest X-ray showed cardiomegaly and echocardiography revealed a large right atrial mass, which was successfully resected. Pathology showed precursor B-LBL arising in the heart and there was no evidence of disease at any extracardiac site. A brief review of the literature is also presented.

During a 1-year period, 28 animals from a breeding colony of N:NIH(S)-bg-nu-xid mice were discovered to have rapidly enlarging subcutaneous swellings in the ventral, cervical, and axillary regions. Extranodal lymphoma may present as an abdominal mass without evidence of disease elsewhere. Predominant pancreatic involvement with lymphoma is rare. Presenting as a pancreatic mass, it may be difficult to differentiate if from carcinoma. Ultrasound-guided fine needle biopsy and immunocytochemistry are helpful in establishing a histological diagnosis. It is important to differentiate lymphoma from carcinoma, because lymphoma is treated differently and has a better prognosis.
