Fluoroscopically guided aspiration of a symptomatic lumbar zygapophyseal joint cyst: a case report.

Lumbar zygapophyseal joint cysts are potential pain generators in patients with axial pain and/or lower-limb radicular pain. The traditional treatment of symptomatic cysts that do not respond to conservative measures is surgical decompression. Percutaneous needle aspiration under fluoroscopic guidance is a potential minimally invasive treatment option. We present a patient with a large symptomatic L4-5 zygapophyseal joint cyst and right L5 radiculopathy who responded well to percutaneous aspiration.

[Intranasal meningeal cysts].

Intrasacral meningeal cysts are relatively uncommon. They are usually asymptomatic, but because of their expansive character, radicular symptoms or functional disturbances in the urinary bladder or rectum can occur. It is of importance to recognize these cysts in order to give the patient the correct treatment and to avoid unnecessary examinations and operations. The diagnosis can be made by myelography, computer tomography or magnetic resonance imaging.

The use of hydrogen peroxide in the experimental therapy of cysts. An in vitro analysis.

AIM: Aim of the authors is to evaluate in vitro the histological alteration caused by hydrogen peroxide on a sample of radicular cysts. METHODS: Twelve radicular cysts were divided into 2 portions. The control group was histologically evaluated whereas the other portion, test, was treated with 3% hydrogen peroxide before histological analysis. Test and control portions were compared for integrity of the epithelium, inflammatory state of the cystic walls, presence of necrosis, stromal vacuolization and microvessel density (MVD). MVD was evaluated by immunohistochemistry using anti-CD34 monoclo…

Effect of deep transfer learning with a different kind of lesion on classification performance of pre-trained model: Verification with radiolucent lesions on panoramic radiographs.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to clarify the influence of training with a different kind of lesion on the performance of a target model. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 310 patients (211 men, 99 women; average age, 47.9±16.1 years) were selected and their panoramic images were used in this study. We created a source model using panoramic radiographs including mandibular radiolucent cyst-like lesions (radicular cyst, dentigerous cyst, odontogenic keratocyst, and ameloblastoma). The model was simulatively transferred and trained on images of Stafne's bone cavity. A learning model was cre…

Dentigerous cyst of mandibular second premolar in a five-year-old girl, related to a non-vital primary molar removed one year earlier: a case report.

A dentigerous cyst of the mandibular second premolar in a 5-year-old female was radiographically diagnosed. A non-vital primary predecessor molar had been removed a year earlier. At that time, the primary molar had been in the mouth for approximately two years. Although there was the possibility of the premolar being non-vital, as a consequence of the cystic cavity surrounding it, marsupialization treatment of the cyst was done, causing a rapid development of the premolar. Structural irregularities in the enamel and in the first radicular portion were visible, possibly caused by the very early

Intramedullary cysticercosis.

We are reporting two cases of intramedullary cysticercus cysts. Both patients presented with a clinical picture of progressive cord compression. One of them also had bilateral radicular pain. In the female patient the symptoms became exaggerated during her two consecutive pregnancies which is a rare and interesting observation. Excision of cyst resulted in significant improvement in both the patients.

Sacral perineural cyst accompanying disc herniation.

Although most of sacral perineural cysts are asymptomatic, some may produce symptoms. Specific radicular pain may be due to distortion, compression, or stretching of nerve root by a space occupying cyst. We report a rare case of S1 radiculopathy caused by sacral perineural cyst accompanying disc herniation. The patient underwent a microscopic discectomy at L5-S1 level. However, the patient's symptoms did not improved. The hypesthesia persisted, as did the right leg pain. Cyst-subarachnoid shunt was set to decompress nerve root and to equalize the cerebrospinal fluid pressure between the cephal

[Apical granulomas and apical root cysts of inflammatory origin. A statistical study on 328 cases observed at the Ambulatory Services of Odontostomatology of the Ospedale Martini, via Tofane 71, Turin].

328 cases of chronic tooth lesions (apical granulomas and bone cysts) were examined in the Dental Surgery of the Martini Hospital in Turin and many received a later check-up. The complete series was statistically analysed in terms of lesion frequency in the different areas of the dental arch, lesion diameters and the chances of successful surgical intervention.
