Reports of a composite paraganglioma (PG) and ganglioneuroma (GN) in the retroperitoneum are rare. In the present case, dynamic computed tomographic (CT) findings showed a 30 × 22 × 20 mm tumor that was located in the retroperitoneum and which was dissociated from pancreatic tissue and the left adrenal gland. The markedly reddish tumor showed a clear margin and central multicystic changes on the cut surface. The tumor was composed of two major components, the PG and the GN. BACKGROUND: The evaluation and treatment of retroperitoneal sarcomas are challenging because the tumors are relatively rare and frequently present with advanced disease in an anatomically complex location.

We report a rare case of localized perirenal retroperitoneal fibrosis (RPF) in a woman presenting with anemia. The increased diagnostic capabilities and imaging characteristics of CT and MRI are emphasized. Extensive search through the literature revealed that perirenal distribution of RPF has been reported in eight cases, being unilateral in only three.

A thoracic kidney is a scarce type of ectopic kidney. We report the case of a 76-year-old man who developed cancer of the ureter, ipsilateral to the thoracic kidney. He presented with abdominal pain in the right upper quadrant. Computed tomography revealed a right hydronephrotic kidney located in the thorax with elevation of the diaphragm. An ectopic spleen refers to splenic tissue or lobules located outside the normal anatomical position of the spleen and is most commonly found near the splenic hilum. Identification and control of the central adrenal vein (CAV) are key steps in laparoscopic adrenalectomy. However, the retroperitoneal laparoscopic left adrenalectomy (RLLA) lacks identifiable anatomical landmarks and does not have advantage of quickly exposing CAV. Here, we developed surgical maneuver and tactics of using the inferior phrenic vein (IPV) as a landmark in RLLA. During operations, we searched for the IPV between superior margin of renal artery and anterior aspect of psoas major muscle, and then the left IPV was followed and applied as an anatomical landmark to identify the CAV.

Mullerian cysts are mostly described in women, near the genitourinary organs. Exceptional cases of retroperitoneal and posterior mediastinal located Mullerian cysts have been reported. When located in the retroperitoneum, those cysts are often confused with other retroperitoneal cysts such as cystic lymphangioma and cystic mesothelioma of peritoneum because of the poor clinical picture and a nonspecific radiologic presentation. The histopathological analysis is essential to make the diagnosis, and the positive staining of a Müllerian marker is a decisive argument in favor of a Müllerian cyst.

We present the case report of bilateral renal angiomyolipomas in a 70-year-old patient. Spontaneous bleeding into the retroperitoneum and hemodynamic instability required an acute surgical revision with a left-sided nephrectomy. The contralateral angiomyolipoma was selectively embolized in the second period and subsequently resected.
