Hematological malignancy (HM) is developed in 2-6% patients with primary mediastinal germ cell tumor (MGCT). Symptoms of HM associated with MGCT usually appear after diagnosis of MGCT. Patients with MGCT underlying HM have poor prognosis. We report an extremely rare autopsy case of simultaneous presentation of MGCT, myelodysplastic neoplasm (MDS) with low blasts, and myeloid sarcoma (MS). A 27-year-old man presented with intermittent fever, general fatigue, and cough. Computed tomography revealed 11 cm mass in anterior mediastinum, hepatosplenomegaly, and gastric, pericholedochal, and mesenter

The prevalence of multiple primary tumors has significantly increased last time. The question of choosing the optimal tactics of therapy today not fully resolved. Particular interest is the simultaneous detection of two neoplasms of similar origin in one study biopsy material. This publication presents a case of simultaneous diagnosis of myeloid sarcoma and mantle cell lymphoma in a 65-year-old patient, which required use of two different chemotherapy protocols. This example shows the need to use an extended diagnostic approach at all stages of the therapy, which allows choosing right tactics

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Myeloid sarcoma is a rare form of extramedullary leukemia, which can present with or without systemic leukemia. The purpose of this study was to evaluate characteristic computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings (including diffusion weighted imaging and susceptibility weighted imaging) of myeloid sarcoma involving the brain.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: One hundred nine patients with pathologically proven myeloid sarcoma underwent pretreatment CT and MRI, which were retrospectively reviewed. Computed tomography and MRI characteristics reviewed inc

We present a highly unusual case and histological images of a patient who underwent complete resection of a perforated caecal adenocarcinoma caused by angiodestruction of the proximal vasculature by a distinct acute myeloid infiltrate. Both tumours were removed in their entirety at one visit to theatre and the patient remains well and in remission 18 months later.

A 57-year-old woman was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML, M5a) with MLL rearrangement in August 2006. Cord blood transplantation (CBT) conditioned with a reduced-intensity regimen was carried out during second complete remission in March 2007. Marrow study on day 28 confirmed complete chimera and disappearance of minimal residual disease by RT-PCR. She complained of left chest pain around day 120. CT scan on day 127 showed left pleural effusion, tumors of the upper mediastinum and spleen, and pericardial effusion. She suddenly died of cardiogenic shock on day 129. Postmortem examinat

Granulocytic sarcomas (chloromas) are rare extramedullary tumors consisting of primitive granulocytic cells. They arise de novo, or are associated with other hematologic disorders such as acute myeloid leukemia, myelodysplastic syndrome, or myeloproliferative disorders. We report here on a case of a 62-year-old woman who presented with a large swelling in her right groin and leg. The mass was confirmed by biopsy to be a granulocytic sarcoma. Bone marrow examination showed mild hypercellularity but no evidence of increase in blast count. However, cytogenetic examination of the marrow showed t(9

Myeloid sarcoma is an extramedullary tumor composed of myeloid blasts, most commonly involving the skin, lymph nodes, and soft tissues. We report a rare case of myeloid sarcoma of the central nervous system (CNS) causing neuropsychiatric symptoms in an elderly woman with a history of JAK2-positive polycythemia vera and acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in long-term remission. The patient presented with a one-month history of complex visual hallucinations, short-term memory loss, and personality changes. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a 2.4-cm enhancing mass in the septum pellucidum extending b

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a rare extramedullary manifestation of acute myeloid leukemia. While MS can involve various organs, isolated involvement of the nasal cavity or breast is uncommon, and the sequential involvement of both sites in a single patient is extremely rare. We present the case of a 68-year-old female who developed an MS relapse in the right breast 6 years after being treated for primary MS of the right nasal cavity. In 2018, she presented with a right nasal mass, initially suspected clinically to be a polyp. Histopathological and immunohistochemical (IHC) analyses confirmed MS. S

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) can manifest as a primary disease entity, known as de novo myeloid sarcoma, without the concurrent presence of acute or chronic myelocytic leukemia, myelodysplastic syndrome, or myeloproliferative neoplasm. It is crucial to approach suspected de novo myeloid sarcoma cases comprehensively to prevent misdiagnosis and ensure timely and accurate treatment. We report a case of de novo myeloid sarcoma involving the kidney in a 38-year-old female patient with a chief complaint of a rapidly enlarging palpable mass in the upper right quadrant for over a month. The patient's enhance

ERG overexpression has been linked to acute myeloid leukemia/myeloid sarcoma (MS). The aim of our study was to identify the frequency of ERG immunohistochemical (IHC) expression in MS (n = 21), blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasms (BPDCNs; n = 8), extramedullary hematopoiesis (EMH: n = 9), normal and pathological bone marrow trephine biopsies (BM-TBs, n = 18), and the marrow component of adrenal myelolipomas (n = 15). ERG-positive and ERG-negative immunostains were identified in 68.4% and 31.5% of patients with MS, respectively (2-3+, 20% to >90% of cells), while all BPDCNs were negat

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is an extra-medullary solid tumor consisting of myeloid blasts or immature myeloid cells. MS is usually associated with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and other myeloproliferative neoplasms or myelodysplastic disorders. Isolated MS is a rare clinical entity, and the small bowel is a rare phenomenon for the occurrence of MS. A 30-year-old African American female patient with a past medical history of asthma presented with acute abdominal pain and vomiting for 3 days. Imaging revealed small bowel obstruction with a transition point at a suspicious mass in the distal ileum mimi

OBJECTIVE: To characterize a clinical triad of symptoms associated with myeloid sarcomas of the temporal bone via a review of all previously reported cases.
METHODS: Case report and Ovid MEDLINE database literature review.
RESULTS: A literature search revealed that a clinical triad of hearing loss, otalgia, and facial nerve weakness are commonly associated with this rare presentation of myeloid sarcoma in the temporal bone. 44% (18/41) of patients presented with all three symptoms, while 76% (31/41) presented with at least two. The presence of t(8;21) was reported in nine patients with myelo
