OBJECTIVE: There are limited long-term data that has examined postoperative quality-of-life measures following placement of midurethral sling (MUS) for stress urinary incontinence (SUI). The SEAPI incontinence questionnaire includes 5 data points that rate severity of specific urinary symptoms. Our aim was to describe changes in SEAPI questionnaire outcomes 1 year following sling placement.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed women who underwent MUS for SUI from 2005 to 2012. We included those women who had completed preoperative and postoperative (>12 months) SEAPI scores. Individual S, E,

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: Factors affecting the anti-incontinence efficacy of a tailored anterior transvaginal mesh (ATVM) surgery are undetermined. Thus, our aim was to investigate predictors for anti-incontinence efficacy of this ATVM surgery.
METHODS: Medical records of women with pelvic organ prolapse and concomitant evident or occult urodynamic stress incontinence, who underwent the ATVM surgery but without concomitant anti-incontinence surgery, were reviewed.
RESULTS: A total of 134 women were reviewed, including those who underwent ATVM only (n = 45), ATVM and posterior transvaginal mesh su

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is the involuntary loss of urine on effort and is a condition that negatively interferes with various aspects of a woman's life. This study aimed to demonstrate the non-inferiority of the less invasive single-incision mini-sling (SIMS) method in objective and subjective cures in relation to tension-free transobturator tape (TOT) in two analyses, per protocol and intention to treat, and secondarily to evaluate complications and quality of life.
METHODS: This study was a randomized controlled trial (RCT). Participants in this study

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Coital incontinence is the involuntary leakage of urine during sexual intercourse and is divided into that occurring with penetration and that occurring with orgasm. Mechanisms of coital incontinence are poorly understood. The aim of this retrospective study was to measure the prevalence of coital incontinence and evaluate the association among various types of coital incontinence with stress urinary incontinence (SUI), overactive bladder (OAB) and impact on quality-of-life in women attending a urogynaecology clinic.
METHODS: A total of 2,312 women completed the e

AIMS: Women with pelvic organ prolapse without symptoms of urinary incontinence (UI) might demonstrate stress urinary incontinence (SUI) with or without prolapse reduction. We aimed to determine the value of demonstrable SUI during basic office evaluation or urodynamics in predicting SUI after vaginal prolapse repair in these women.
METHODS: Women included in the CUPIDO trials without bothersome UI or UI more than once a week were eligible if they had undergone prolapse repair without incontinence surgery. The diagnostic and predictive value of demonstrable SUI was studied for postoperative S

For the period from April 2008 to March 2012, 12 men with mild-to-moderate and severe stress urinary incontinence underwent transobturator AdVance sling implantation. In the preoperative period, all patients underwent assessment, including history taking, physical, and instrumental and laboratory examination. Daily pad test was used as an objective method for the assessment of the degree of urinary incontinence. The use no more than one pad a day was considered as recovery, no more than 2 pads or reduction of the loss of urine by more than 50%--as an improvement. Median follow-up period was 28

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: The use of synthetic slings for the treatment of male stress urinary incontinence (SUI) has increased over the last decade. Several sling designs and techniques are now available. The purpose of this review is to summarize the past literature with a focus on more recent contributions.
RECENT FINDINGS: The recent literature focusses on the retrourethral transobturator sling (RTS), which is considered noncompressive. MRI of patients undergoing RTS has shown an increase in membranous urethral length and elevation of the external urethral sphincter, whereas a recent large serie

OBJECTIVE: Because of the reported high percentage of bladder infections after placement of a midurethral sling (8.9%-34%), this study was undertaken to determine if a 3-day postoperative course of a urinary antibiotic would significantly lower the incidence of urinary tract infection (UTI) among treated women.
METHODS: Women who were planning outpatient vaginal surgery for stress incontinence were enrolled, after informed consent, and randomized to receive placebo or nitrofurantoin (100 mg 2 times a day) for 3 days after surgery. Research subjects and investigators were blinded to the random

Patients with complications of urethral sling placement for stress urinary incontinence are often treated for recurrent symptoms for years after initial reassuring evaluation. Translabial ultrasound is a noninvasive modality with minimal risks that can clearly diagnose urethral mesh complications. We present a 47-year-old premenopausal woman referred for treatment of urethral stricture and diverticulum 8 years after mesh sling placement. The diagnosis was made at an outside institution by voiding cystourethrogram and cystoscopy. However, translabial ultrasound confirmed the diagnosis of comple
