[Urban alternate host cycle of Taenia saginata in Wittstock County, district of Potsdam (East Germany)].

The urban alternate host cycle of Taenia saginata in the county of Wittstock, district of Potsdam (GDR). Investigations of the epidemiology of bovine cysticercosis and human taeniasis were carried out in the county of Wittstock from 1979 till 1980. The analysis was based on the examination of human faeces, sewage and sewage sludge, the registration of infested humans, anticestodica consumption, number of infested cattle, areas for squirting out sewage, fodder supply areas and location of cattle. Why are toilets not used? Using system effects modelling to understand stakeholder perceptions on the impacts and barriers to Taenia solium control in Eastern and Western Uganda.

Taenia solium taeniasis/cysticercosis in humans and pigs remains endemic to Uganda. Although, looking at the lifecycle of the parasite, the risk factors are well known, and many biomedical control options exist - no substantial progress has been made in the eradication of T. solium infections in Uganda to date. Contextual factors including socioeconomic, cultural and infrastructural factors, may influence the adoption of interventions. A community-based study using mixed methods and relying on system effects modelling approach was carried out between March and April 2021 in Kamuli district, Ea…

[Research priorities for the control and elimination of major helminthiases].

In 2009, the Disease Reference Group on Helminth Infections (DRG4) was established by the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR) to comprehensively review recent advances, identify gaps and rank priorities in helminthiases research towards control and elimination. Six major human helminthiases are targeted, namely onchocerciasis, lymphatic filariasis, soil-transmitted helminthiases, schistosomiasis, food-borne trematodiasis and cysticercosis/taeniasis. Systematic reports made by the DRG4 from such aspects as the impact of helminthiases, control and elimination, …

Common host antigens in laboratory rats infected with the metacestodes of Taenia crassiceps.

Laboratory rats were infected by intra-peritoneal injection with the metacestodes of Taenia crassiceps. A soluble extract was prepared from the metacestodes removed from the peritoneal cavity of the rats. Double-diffusion, immuno-electrophoresis and fluorescent labelled antibody staining techniques were used. The extract tested against rabbit anti-normal rat serum was found to contain an antigen common to both the host and the parasite.
