Psychopathological correlates of dopaminergic disturbances in major depression.

In a recent report, we confirmed the role of dopamine in the pathophysiology of depression by demonstrating a blunted response of growth hormone (GH) to apomorphine, a selective dopaminergic agonist, in endogenous depressive patients. Few data are available on the possible psychopathological correlates of disturbances in the apomorphine test. In this study, we assessed the relationship between GH response to apomorphine and the Minnesota multiphasic personality inventory (MMPI) scales in a sample of 20 major depressive inpatients. The GH response (area under the curve) after apomorphine inject

Melatonin and Alprazolam as Anxiolytic Agents in Minor Oral Surgical Procedures - A Comparative Study.

INTRODUCTION: Dental anxiety has a major impact on patient compliance, which frequently requires pre-operative pharmacological intervention. Although commonly utilised, melatonin, an endogenous hormone with analgesic and anxiolytic effects and alprazolam, a short-acting benzodiazepine, are not frequently compared in minor oral surgical procedures. This study compares melatonin and alprazolam as anxiolytic and analgesic agents in patients undergoing minor oral surgical procedures. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In a triple-blind, randomised controlled trial, 42 American Society of Anesthesiologists (A

Ageing mindfully: exploration of a conceptual model targeting anxiety about ageing in midlife.

OBJECTIVES: Ageing anxiety describes experiences of fear associated with the ageing process. In addition to the unpleasant experience of fear itself, several negative outcomes are linked to it. This study aimed to explore associations between mindfulness, self-care, self-compassion, and ageing anxiety within a framework of consistency theory. METHOD: Nonlatent path analysis was performed to examine the hypothesised relationships. Data were collected from N = 460 middle-aged (40-65-year-old) German-speaking adults. Validation of four measures of mental health against depression and generalized anxiety in a community based sample.

There is a need to validate screening measures of affective and generalized anxiety disorders for use in epidemiological surveys of mental health in the general population. This study examined the diagnostic accuracy of the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), Goldberg Anxiety and Depression Scales (GAS, GDS) and the 12-item Short Form Health Survey (SF-12) Mental Health Component Summary Scale (MCS-12) in a population based longitudinal study in Australia. We report analyses of two narrow age birth cohorts in the Personality and Total Health (PATH) through life study (ages 32-36 and 52-58).

Parallel Single-Tissue Summary-Data Mendelian Randomization and Functional Validation Identify the ARRDC1 Promoter SNP rs4494021 as a Genetic Marker Associated with Anxiety Disorders.

PURPOSE: Anxiety disorders are highly heritable, but their underlying genetic mechanisms remain poorly understood. This study aimed to identify and functionally characterize genes whose expression is causally linked to anxiety disorder risk by integrating the parallel single-tissue genetic data. METHODS: We applied a parallel single-tissue summary-data-based Mendelian randomization (SMR) approach. This integrated large-scale anxiety disorder GWAS statistics with expression quantitative trait loci (eQTL) data from peripheral blood and 13 brain regions. The functional impact of a prioritized SN

Causal effect of anxiety and depression status on the symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease and functional dyspepsia during proton pump inhibitor therapy.

BACKGROUND: Although anxiety and depression status is considered related to gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and functional dyspepsia (FD) symptoms, ambiguity primarily arises from the difficulty in determining their cause-effect relationships. We aimed to examine the longitudinal reciprocal causation between anxiety/depression status and GERD/FD symptoms among symptomatic adult patients with GERD. METHODS: Adult (≥ 20 years) patients with GERD symptoms received PPI treatment for 4 weeks after endoscopy. GERD and FD symptom subscales (GERD-SS/FD-SS) were evaluated using the gastroesopha

Separation Anxiety Disorder in Panic Disorder Patients with and without Comorbid Agoraphobia.

Objective: Previous studies have focused on the relationship between childhood separation anxiety disorder (SAD) and adult panic disorder (PD)-agoraphobia. It is not clear enough whether SAD, which continues into adulthood, is associated with PD with and without comorbid agoraphobia in adult patients. Our primary hypothesis was that PD patients with comorbid agoraphobia had a higher rate of SAD that continues into adulthood than those without agoraphobia. We also hypothesized that adulthood SAD symptoms were more likely to be associated with PD-agoraphobia than PD without agoraphobia.Method: 1
