Dental trauma is relatively common and can occur secondary to sporting injuries, falls, fights, or accidents. According to the International Association of Dental Traumatology, 50% of children experience dental trauma between the ages of 8 to 12. There are many options for endodontic and restorative treatments of traumatized teeth. Ribbond, which was introduced in the market in 1992, consists of bondable, reinforced ultra-high strength polyethylene fibers. Ribbond may be an option for the treatment of traumatized teeth because of its aesthetic properties; absence of additional tooth preparatio

INTRODUCTION: Long-term outcomes after replantation of avulsed anterior teeth remain difficult to predict. This retrospective study evaluated post-replantation tooth survival and assessed the tooth- and patient-level factors associated with tooth loss and ankylosis.
METHODS: Patients with replanted avulsed anterior teeth treated between 2008 and 2021 were identified from a clinical database. Observation time extended from replantation to tooth failure or last follow-up. Kaplan-Meier analysis was used to estimate the survival probabilities using patient-cluster bootstrap confidence intervals (

INTRODUCTION: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess the pulp survival rate of cracked teeth with normal pulp or reversible pulpitis managed using external splinting.
METHODS: A comprehensive literature search was conducted across PubMed, Scopus, LILACS, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Google Scholar up to January 31, 2025. Clinical studies evaluating pulp survival in permanent mature cracked teeth diagnosed with normal pulp or reversible pulpitis, with a minimum follow-up period of 12 months, were included. The risk of bias was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale, while t

IMPORTANCE: Canine extraction of large carnivores can pose significant risk due to extensive tissue damage during aggressive bone reduction. This report highlights a rare instance in which the use of a piezoelectric surgical unit (PSU) for maxillary canine extraction in a large carnivore resulted in successful outcomes with minimal tissue damage.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 10-year-old male African lion presented with decreased appetite because of bilateral maxillary canine fractures. Intraoral radiographs revealed enlarged root canals and periapical radiolucency of the fractured canines, leading to

Maintaining and restoring teeth exhibiting subgingival or even subcrestal defect extensions represent a common problem in daily practice. Such teeth are often deemed "unrestorable" due to a significant hard tissue loss and defect locations violating the biologic width. In order to achieve a sufficient 2-mm-ferrule design and reestablish the biologic width, both surgical crown lengthening and orthodontic extrusion have been suggested. However, surgical crown lengthening has a negative effect on the attachment level of adjacent teeth as well as esthetic disadvantages particularly in the esthetic

Our aim was to measure the forces that fracture teeth during extraction based on the effectiveness of the extraction forceps, and to compare them with data collected about forces applied to extracted teeth that did not fracture. We studied 208 patients whose teeth fractured during both the standard and our new method of extraction: maxillary incisors (n=79) extracted with forceps 1 (maxillary incisor forceps), and both maxillary (n=95) and mandibular incisors (n=34) extracted with forceps 13 (mandibular premolar forceps). Forces needed to fracture were assessed with a specially-designed instru

The purpose of this case report is to discuss and illustrate the clinical usage of Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) for the diagnosis of maxillofacial fractures in a traumatized patient. In this presentation, a 30-year-old male patient who was referred to Oral Diagnosis and Radiology Department with a limitation of mouth opening was reported. The history of the patient revealed a traumatic injury on his face because of a fall. The patient was initially examined by a medical practitioner in the emergency department of a public hospital. According to 2D cephalometric analysis, no fracture ex

The proper management of complex pediatric mandibular fractures remains a topic of debate because of the relatively uncommon presentation of these fractures, combined with concerns related with deciduous teeth, tooth buds, and growth inhibition. In this current study, we present a novel approach to the repair of bilateral condylar fractures with concomitant symphyseal fracture in a 4-year-old girl. Manual closed reduction was first obtained, followed by placement of a transfacial Steinman pin through the angles of the mandible and placement of circummandibular wires. Maxillomandibular fixation

Dental trauma is one of the most common injuries encountered in the younger population. This can have a long-term impact on the patient's overall quality of life as they may have to deal with the sequelae of these injuries for years to come. Young boys experience dental trauma more frequently than young girls and one of the most common outcomes of these injuries are fractured teeth. This first paper in a two-part review series aims to provide an overview of dental trauma followed by a discussion on management of fractured teeth, associated pulpal complications and resorption. These can be unco

The presence of subgingival pathology, such as a deep secondary caries lesion, a fracture, an already existing restoration that needs to be replaced or the presence of a resorption defect, can constitute a difficult starting situation for the preservation of a tooth. How to deal with such a situation has been a topic of discussion for years. Surgical crown lengthening is one of the first and classic treatment options that is often chosen in such cases. Crown lengthening is a periodontal surgical technique to obtain extra supra crestal clinical crown length. The question is, what is the long-te

The following case report outlines the impact of motor tics linked to Tourette's syndrome on dental development and healing following a dental injury to a maxillary central incisor. Emergency care and splinting of a mobile extruded maxillary left central incisor tooth was carried out at the local dentist on the same day as the dental trauma. A subsequent referral was made to the paediatric dental department for continued mobility of the maxillary central incisor on splint removal approximately 2 weeks later. A clinical and radiographic examination revealed shortened root length and apical root

Surgical extrusion is a recognised treatment option for teeth that have insufficient coronal tooth structure remaining due to deep caries, resorption or traumatic injury. However, the technique has not been widely adopted, arguably because extraction of a severely compromised tooth may be difficult to achieve in a gentle and predictable way. In this paper, we present our novel approach to surgical extrusion and subsequent management of teeth using a vertical extraction system (Benex), which has become the method of choice in the authors' practice for many teeth that would otherwise be deemed u

OBJECTIVE: The investigation was conducted to better characterize the clinical, radiographic, and histopathologic features of cemental tears from a review of 21 cases.
STUDY DESIGN: This was a retrospective review of consecutive cases collected from patient records of the investigators.
RESULTS: Twenty-one cases were identified during an 8-year period. Maxillary incisors were most often affected (47.6%). All lesions presented with pain. They occurred as radiolucencies along the root of a vital or endodontically treated tooth and were classified as D-shaped (38.1%), thin-vertical-line (23.8%)

A population of 85 patients, comprising 95 root-fractured permanent incisors followed up to 11 years, was studied prospectively for the type of fracture healing that occurred (i.e. union of the fragments by interposition of hard tissue (HT) or connective tissue (CT), or nonunion characterized by interposition of granulation tissue between the fragments (GT)). Initial treatment was provided according to established treatment guidelines by the attending oral surgeon at the emergency room. Follow-up examination and treatment were provided by 2 of the authors. It appeared that GT could be diagnose
