The blood flow in the vertebral artery was measured in 507 patients with vertigo using ultrasonic blood rheography. In 150 of the 507 cases (32%), abnormal findings including laterality and decreased flow were detected. OBJECTIVE: To determine if subclinical hepatotoxicity is associated with exposure to perchloroethylene at concentrations commonly experienced in the workplace, and whether surveillance with serum hepatic transaminase activity underestimates such effects.
METHODS: Hepatic parenchymal echogenicity on ultrasonography and serum hepatic transaminase activity were compared in 29 community based dry cleaning operators exposed to perchloroethylene, and a control group of 29 non-exposed laundry workers. This study correlates the severity of polyhydramnios with perinatal morbidity and mortality. The study of gastric emptying in the preterm infant has been hampered by the absence of a suitable, valid technique. We have evaluated gastric antral clearance using serial ultrasonic measurement of the antral cross sectional area (ACSA). We describe a new technique using ultrasound guided puncture of the subclavian vein and fluoroscopic control of the guide wire and the catheter position. Using this technique we performed 70 catheter introductions in 54 patients at the radiological department of the University Hospital of Rotterdam. Authors present the parts of the shoulder that can be represented by ultrasound. Beside the rotator cuff of accentuated significance (within this, first of all the tendon of the supraspinatus muscle) the subacromial bursa, the tendon of the long head of the biceps, the muscle-tendon junction of the infraspinatus muscle are analysed. It is stated that the ultrasonography is suitable for a reliable representation of the soft tissues, surrounding the shoulder joint, further in possession of literary data they see possibility for a very exact judgement of the pathological alterations, too.

The authors analyse the results of intraoperative ultrasonic examination (IOUSE) of the liver in 31 patients with echinococcosis of the liver; 21 of them had multiple hydatid cysts in the liver. Routine echographical neonatal diagnosis of congenital dislocation of the hip is today a good method of treatment of this pathology: early diagnosis, infarct, allows treatment in early years with complete healing as shown by long term follow-up. 596 newborns have met with echographic hip screening: the method has shown good result and the study has led us to realize an anamnestical schema pointed on the familiarity which is one of the pathognomic matters of this pathology.
