Eight patients were evaluated clinically, radiologically, and urodynamically to determine the outcome of continent urinary diversion with ileal neobladder performed to treat the recurrent superficial bladder cancer after cystectomy with subcapsular prostatectomy. The mean age of the patients was 55.3 years. After descending dissection of the urinary bladder without ligation or dissection of Santorini's plexus, the prostate was cut to the bladder neck distally for 2 cm under the subcapular prostatectomy. One patient who had a short 3 cm intestinal segment between the pouch and the urethra, had

Low pressure continent urinary diversions with abdominal wall stomas alike the Kock-pouch have shown good results. However, if urethral function can be saved without risk, an anastomosis of a bowel bladder to the urethral stump is more favorable in regards of continence, ease of the procedure and cosmetics. The S-bladder developed on the basis of the S-pouch from Parks, is conceptualized to be a complete replacement of the lower urinary tract, offering a low pressure reservoir, safe antireflux mechanisms, continence and voiding per urethra with abdominal straining. 52 patients (46 males and 6

Spindle cell mesenchymal neoplasms are a diverse and often challenging diagnostic group. While morphological impression is sufficient for some diagnoses, increasingly immunohistochemical and even molecular data is required to render an accurate diagnosis, which can lead to the characterization of new entities. We describe five cases of novel mesenchymal neoplasms with rearrangements in the NCOA2 and NCOA3 genes partnered with either CTCF or CRTC1. Three tumors occurred in the head and neck (palate, auditory canal), while the other two were in visceral organs (lung, urinary bladder). All cases

Aggressive angiomyxoma is a rare, slow-growing mesenchymal neoplasm with a tendency to recur. It mainly involves the pelvis, vulva, perineum, vagina, and urinary bladder in adult women of reproductive age group. We describe a 26-year-old female with large swellings of both labia majora which was histologically diagnosed as aggressive angiomyxoma. She also had systemic lupus erythematosus. The swelling was surgically removed and she had no recurrence at 1-year follow-up. Although it is a rare tumor, it must be considered as a differential diagnosis for any mass in the perineum or soft tissue of

In this short review, we discuss clear cell adenocarcinoma of the urinary bladder, a rare tumor that primarily affects women. The histogenesis of this neoplasm is uncertain; in some tumors the clinicopathologic and histologic features are suggestive of a müllerian origin. Clear cell adenocarcinoma consists of cells with abundant clear cytoplasm, arranged in solid, glandular, or tubulocystic patterns. These tumors are positive for pancytokeratin, cytokeratin 7, and CA 125 immunohistochemical stains. Patients typically present with gross hematuria, dysuria, and discharge. The natural history is

Transitional cell papillomas, which are tumors of epithelial origin, are the most common urinary tract neoplasm in adults but are extremely rare in children. In both groups the main location is the bladder, often around one of the ureteric orifices. Symptoms vary widely but the most frequent is gross hematuria. Transitional cell papillomas are histologically low-grade tumors and total excision is considered curative. However the rate of recurrence in the literature is high, and there is a potential for a more aggressive type of tumor. We report the case of a 12-year-old girl who presented with

Bladder cancer (BCa) is among the most prevalent neoplasms of the urinary and reproductive systems, ranking ninth in overall cancer incidence. Existing treatment modalities have not yet achieved a reduction in the elevated incidence and fatality rates of BCa. Consequently, enhancing our comprehension of the molecular pathways involved in the onset and progression of BCa to formulate novel and successful therapeutic strategies is a prominent area of research. Post-translational modifications (PTMs), essential regulators of protein structure, function, and diverse biological processes, play pivo

BACKGROUND: Urinary conventional cytology (UCCy) is easy to perform, but its low sensitivity, especially for low-grade urothelial neoplasms (LGUNs), limits its indications in the management of patients at risk of bladder cancer. The authors aim at obtaining a complementary test that would effectively increase the sensitivity of UCCy on voided urines by analyzing fluorescence of Papanicolaou-stained urothelial cells with no change of method in slide preparation.
METHODS: In this retrospective study of 155 patients, 91 Papanicolaou-stained voided urines were considered satisfactory under fluore

Although collecting duct carcinoma is a subtype of renal cell carcinoma, several studies implicate association with urothelial carcinoma. The coexistence of collecting duct carcinoma and another renal neoplasm is rare. Endemic nephropathy is a renal disease causing chronic renal failure. It is highly associated with urothelial neoplasm and occurs in endemic villages in Bosnia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania and Serbia. Recent studies have confirmed the important role of exposure to aristolochic acid as an etiologic factor. We present three cases of collecting duct carcinoma with literature overvie

Urothelial carcinoma (UC) is the most common malignancy of urinary bladder. It is the 9th leading cause of death worldwide and second most common genitourinary malignancy among male. Incidence is increasing in developing countries like Bangladesh. About 80% of patients are found between 50 to 80 years of age. It is 3-4 times more common in male than in female. Determination of therapeutic strategy and prediction of progression of urothelial carcinoma is a major clinical challenge. Treatment of urothelial carcinoma still now mostly depends on pathological stages. Amplification or genomic altera

Paragangliomas are neuroendocrine neoplasms, derived from paraganglia of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. They are most commonly identified in the head and neck, being most frequent in the carotid body, followed by jugulotympanic paraganglia, vagal nerve and ganglion nodosum, as well as laryngeal paraganglia. Abdominal sites include the well-known urinary bladder tumors that originate in the Organ of Zuckerkandl. However, other unusual sites of origin include peri-adrenal, para-aortic, inter-aortocaval, and paracaval retroperitoneal sites, as well as tumors in organs where

BACKGROUND: Prostate cancer (PCa) patients receiving radiotherapy may be predisposed to secondary malignancies. This study aimed to determine the association between PCa treatments, including radical prostatectomy (RP), external beam radiation therapy (EBRT), brachytherapy (BT) and androgen deprivation therapy (ADT); and secondary bladder and colorectal cancer.
METHODS: A cohort study was constructed using Quebec administrative databases (Med-Echo and RAMQ). Included men were diagnosed and treated for PCa between 2000 and 2016. Patients with bladder or colorectal cancer prior to PCa were excl

BACKGROUND: Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) is an uncommon mesenchymal neoplasm. Urachal involvement is exceedingly rare, and evidence regarding its clinical presentation, diagnosis, and management remains limited.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 62-year-old female patient who presented with urinary frequency and dysuria for 8 days. Computed tomography (CT) revealed a mass at the junction of the urachus and the anterosuperior wall of the bladder, which was further confirmed by cystoscopy. The patient underwent laparoscopic resection of the urachal mass combined with partia

Urachal carcinoma is an uncommon neoplasm. Benign urachal tumours are extremely rare. All urachal mucinous tumours, regardless of tumour type, have the potential to behave in an aggressive clinical manner that includes the development of pseudomyxoma peritonei. We report a 58-year-old man who presented with lower abdominal pain. Ultrasound and CT imaging defined a large lobulated cystic mass superior to the urinary bladder. At laparotomy, the multiloculated cystic mass, 10 x 8 x 6 cm, could be completely separated from the bladder and was excised. It was smooth-walled and filled with thick muc

Extrapulmonary small cell carcinoma (EPSCC) is a rare neoplasm comprising 2.5% to 5% of small cell carcinomas (SCCs). Bladder SCC is the most common site of genitourinary tract. Primary renal SCC is extremely rare. We report a case of primary SCC of the kidney which is rarely reported in the urinary tract and presents an aggressive clinical picture. A 59-year-old female visited a urologic clinic with complaint of persistent left flank soreness 10 years after undergoing renal transplantation. Abdominal computed tomography showed a left renal pelvis tumor. After the patient received left nephrou

The micropapillary variant of urothelial carcinoma has a reported incidence of 0.7%. Trophoblastic urinary carcinoma is very rare, with roughly 30 cases reported during the last century. This is the first report of mixed micropapillary and trophoblastic bladder carcinoma. A 45-year-old man presented with gross hematuria. His tumor contained choriocarcinomatoid areas with syncytiotrophoblasts, classic micropapillary carcinoma, conventional high-grade urothelial carcinoma, and flat carcinoma in situ. He underwent radical surgery; tumor stage was T4N2M0. Despite postoperative combination chemothe

BACKGROUND: In patients with muscle-invasive urothelial bladder cancer (MIBC), molecular alterations in immunotherapy-resistant tumors found at radical cystectomy (RC) remain largely unstudied.
OBJECTIVE: To investigate the biology of pembrolizumab-resistant tumors in comparison to an RC cohort treated without any systemic therapy and a cohort of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC)-treated tumors.
DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: Transcriptome-wide expression profiling was performed on 26 RC samples from patients with ypT2-4 disease after pembrolizumab treatment, of which 22 had matched prether

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: To review the current fund of knowledge about prostatic transitional cell carcinoma and the implications for diagnostic and management strategies particularly as they relate to radical cystectomy.
RECENT FINDINGS: Prostatic transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) is present in up to 48% of patients undergoing radical cystoprostatectomy. Transurethral resection biopsies of the prostatic urethra are a sensitive means of detecting prostatic TCC and whole-mount step sectioning is the most accurate method for determining the presence and extent of prostatic TCC. Prostatic TCC may affe
