INTRODUCTION: Pregnant people are at greater risk for vaccine-borne illness yet are more vaccine hesitant than the general population. Hesitancy toward COVID-19 vaccination emerged among pregnant individuals during the COVID-19 pandemic, with vaccine hesitancy also reported in previous vaccine acceptors. With the clear benefits of vaccination for pregnant individuals and their neonates, it is essential to investigate vaccine hesitancy. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to explore the perceptions and decision-making processes of pregnant individuals regarding COVID-19 vaccination during

BACKGROUND: Approaches best suited for encouraging adults to vaccinate themselves may differ from those for encouraging parents to vaccinate their children.
OBJECTIVES: To describe vaccine hesitancy and literacy among the US adult population.
METHODS: This cross-sectional survey assessed vaccine hesitancy and literacy among the US adult population (aged 18-60), grouped by their role as decision makers (parents for their children aged <18 vs. adults for themselves). Results were also examined among adults without children aged <18 by race and by household income. Data were collected using mul

Outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases have increased due, in part, to misconceptions about vaccine safety (Kennedy et al., 2011). Extant literature has examined various messages designed to correct false beliefs about vaccination risks and to urge parents to vaccinate their children. The present study is designed to contribute to this literature by drawing on the broader research and theory on resistance to persuasion and correcting false beliefs. We examine the effects of a humorous (vs. non-humorous) message about the importance of the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine on parents' vacc

Vaccination plays a crucial role in safeguarding individuals with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) from potential epidemics. In light of the resurgence of COVID-19 in China, unvaccinated IBD patients are vulnerable to infection and potentially serious complications. The aim of this study is to assess the vaccination uptake and willingness among IBD patients, as well as to explore the factors influencing their decision to decline vaccination. An online questionnaire was distributed and analyzed. Bivariate analyses and logistic regression models were used to identify relevant factors. Two hundre

BACKGROUND: The 10-month timeline from conception to regulatory approval of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 is unprecedented in modern medicine. However, the climate of the pandemic has also seen anti-vaccination sentiments flourish.
AIMS: To determine the intent to accept COVID-19 vaccination among healthcare workers at a London Hospital Trust and examine variation in uptake between demographic groups.
METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional survey open to staff working at the trust. Staff rated on a five-point scale the likelihood of them accepting COVID-19 vaccination.

Despite evidence that maternal vaccines can contribute to reduction of neonatal infections, vaccine hesitancy is a challenge in many low- and middle-income countries like Uganda. We conducted in-depth interviews with pregnant women and focus group discussions with breastfeeding women who were part of a Group B Streptococcus (GBS) clinical trial. We explored the women's concerns about vaccination and their reasons for being hesitant to take vaccines before they joined the trial. Women aged 18-39 were randomly selected from follow-up lists during the study period. Data were analysed thematically

SCOPE: Vaccine hesitancy remains a major public health challenge, particularly in the post-COVID-19 era, and is exacerbated by misinformation and social distrust. Terminology used in scientific and public health communication may influence perceptions of vaccine safety and credibility. This Position Paper examines the use of the term 'vaccine-derived poliovirus' (VDPV) and its potential impact on vaccine confidence during the final phase of polio eradication.
METHODS: We reviewed published epidemiological, virological, and social science literature on circulating VDPV, vaccine hesitancy, and

BACKGROUND: Vaccination hesitation spans from historical diseases such as smallpox to the current challenges with the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). In Brazil, vaccination faces obstacles related to trust and convenience. Despite the National Immunization Program, fear of adverse effects as well as misinformation challenge confidence in vaccines, and anti-vaccine movements have gained momentum.
OBJECTIVES: This study investigated childhood vaccine refusal, including COVID-19 vaccines, by comparing the reasons for and sociodemographic differences between vaccinated individuals and those who h

COVID-19 and influenza pose serious health risks, and vaccine hesitancy is a major global health challenge. This study examined how the COVID-19 pandemic influenced public awareness and willingness to receive the flu vaccine in Jeddah, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). A cross-sectional web-based survey was conducted in Jeddah from October 2023 to May 2024. The survey targeted individuals aged 18 or older residing in Jeddah. Of the 487 responses, 400 met the inclusion criteria. The survey, administered in Arabic, included 20 questions on demographics, awareness, and attitudes toward vaccines.

BACKGROUND: Attitude-targeted interventions are important approaches for promoting vaccination. Educational approaches alone cannot effectively cultivate positive vaccine attitudes. Artificial intelligence (AI)-driven chatbots and motivational interviewing (MI) techniques show high promise in improving vaccine attitudes and facilitating readiness for vaccination.
OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a theory and evidence-based, MI-oriented AI digital assistant in improving COVID-19 vaccine attitudes among adults in Hong Kong.
METHODS: This 2 parallel-armed randomized

INTRODUCTION: Mpox is a zoonotic viral disease that emerged in May 2022 and has since shown a high prevalence in non-mpox-endemic areas, resulting in an outbreak that caused more than 84,000 cases in 110 countries around the globe. Several vaccines are available to prevent the disease, and multiple studies have been conducted to assess the attitudes of different populations toward receiving the mpox vaccine. This study systematically reviews all the studies conducted on mpox vaccine acceptance/hesitancy among healthcare workers.
METHODS: A systematic literature search was conducted through fo

Pregnant women have been shown to have a higher risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Vaccination against the infection is the most effective strategy for preventing both severe disease and related complications. Nevertheless, vaccination hesitancy among pregnant women is an important issue affecting vaccine uptake and a major challenge for Public Health, as high rates of hesitancy can lead to complete refusal of vaccination, with health implications not only for the mother but also for the fetus. Based on the above, this review aims to capture the rates of vaccination against COVID-19 in pregnancy am…

Measles elimination hinges on vaccination coverage remaining above 95% to retain sufficient community protection. Recent declines in routine measles vaccinations due to the COVID-19 pandemic coupled with prior models indicating the country was close to the 92% herd immunity benchmark are a cause for concern. We evaluated population-level measles susceptibility in the US, including sensitivity analyses accounting for pandemic-related impacts on immunization. We estimated the number of children aged 0-18 currently susceptible to measles and modeled susceptibility proportions in decreased vaccina

Justice-involved populations are at an elevated risk for infectious disease transmission and have been profoundly negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Vaccination is being utilized as a primary tool for prevention and protection from serious infection in carceral settings. We examined the barriers and facilitators to vaccine distribution by surveying key stakeholders-sheriffs and corrections officers-in these settings. Most respondents felt prepared for rollout, although they still identified significant barriers to operationalization of vaccine distribution. Barriers ranked highest b

This case highlights a rare presentation of measles in an unvaccinated adult male in New Jersey, emphasizing the risks posed by declining vaccination rates. The outbreak linked to this case illustrates the public health dangers of vaccine hesitancy and insufficient immunization coverage. A 32-year-old male presented with five days of worsening fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and a spreading maculopapular rash. Physical examination revealed petechial lesions on the soft palate, a lacy-patterned rash, and tachycardia. Laboratory findings included thrombocytopenia, electrolyte imbalances, hype

Vaccine hesitancy is growing worldwide and hampering efforts to control vaccine-preventable diseases. Healthcare professionals have a critical role in the acceptance of vaccination by patients. Increased awareness about the benefits of vaccination is one of the recommended strategy to counter vaccine hesitancy. Beyond protection of individuals against specific pathogens, vaccination have broad benefits at multiple levels of society, partly mediated by community protection. These benefits include improved access to education, increased productivity and positive fiscal impact, limitation of gend
