OBJECTIVE: To investigate the surgical procedures and outcomes of curing the mild and medium vaginal relaxation by double suturing vaginal muscularis.
METHODS: From May 2005 to November 2008, 8 patients (aged 30-45 years old) with mild and medium vaginal relaxation were treated. All the patients were married and had reproductive history of natural childbirth. The double semiring suture was performed in the region 4 cm and 0.5 cm away from the vaginal orifice, respectively, forming the first and the second semicircle to make vagina outside 1/3 segments and vagina muscles tighten.
RESULTS: The

BACKGROUND: The carcinoma of vagina is a rare entity in the gynecological oncology field and a standardized therapy is not established due to lack of clinical experience even in major oncology centers. To our knowledge, there have been no previous reports that assess the clinical experience of primary vaginal carcinoma associated with vaginal prolapse.
CASE: A 73-year-old P11 L11 female presented with verrucous epidermoid carcinoma in prolapsed vagina which has occurred 16 years after transvaginal hysterectomy approached for treatment of third degree uterine prolapse associated with cervix de

CASE DESCRIPTION: A 6-year-old 36.5-kg (80.3-lb) spayed female Labrador Retriever was evaluated because of an 11-month history of vaginal bleeding. Previous radiographic, endoscopic, and surgical interventions had failed to detect an underlying cause for the bleeding. The dog was examined on an emergency basis because of severe anemia after the bleeding increased in severity.
CLINICAL FINDINGS: Bleeding was severe, and results of vaginoscopy and radiography (after administration of a contrast agent) did not confirm the cause of the hemorrhage. An exploratory episiotomy revealed multiple bleed

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate vaginal and laparoscopic-assisted vaginal myomectomy in order to find interest and indications of this two-way approach of myomectomy.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Retrospective study of 60 patients operated of a myomectomy by vaginal or laparoscopic-assisted vaginal way between December 1999 and January 2007.
RESULTS: Thirty-three patients (55%) profited from an exclusive vaginal myomectomy (group 1) and 27 (45%) from a laparoscopic-assisted vaginal myomectomy (group 2). The vaginal gesture in group 2 was carried out mainly because of difficult dissections of deep interstit

OBJECTIVE: To assess changes in the prevalence and abundance of vaginal Lactobacillus after fractional micro-ablative carbon dioxide (CO2) therapy in postmenopausal women with vulvovaginal atrophy (VVA).
METHODS: This prospective, single-arm clinical study was conducted in postmenopausal women who underwent treatment with CO2 laser therapy. Eligible participants were enrolled before the first session of therapy and evaluated at weeks 0, 8, 20, and 32. Vaginal fluid samples were collected using a standardized protocol and processed for Gram staining and expanded quantitative urine culture (EQU

A group-comparative study to assess pelvic floor muscle function using vaginal cones, vaginal digital palpation, and vaginal pressure measurements in 30 women suffering from genuine stress urinary incontinence and in an age-matched group of continent women was undertaken. Vaginal digital palpation score and vaginal pressure during active contraction were greater (p < 0.001) in continent women (1.9 +/- 0.1 and 8.6 +/- 0.7 cm H2O, respectively) as compared with incontinent women (1.0 +/- 0.1 and 4.1 +/- 0.4 cm H2O, respectively). Continent women were able to retain a vaginal cone of greater weig

BACKGROUND: Recurrent vaginitis in conjunction with urinary tract infection (RV/UTI) in perimenopausal women is a common clinical condition that impacts both doctors and patients. Its pathogenesis is not completely known, but the urogenital microbiota is thought to be involved. We compared the urogenital and gut microbiotas of perimenopausal women experiencing RV/UTI with those of age-matched controls to provide a new microbiological perspective and scheme for solving clinical problems.
RESULTS: Fifty women of perimenopausal age who were diagnosed with RV/UTI and 50 age-matched healthy contro…

INTRODUCTION: The human vaginal virome is an essential yet understudied component of the vaginal microbiome. Its diversity and potential contributions to health and disease, particularly vaginitis, remain poorly understood.
METHODS: We conducted metagenomic sequencing on 24 pooled vaginal swab libraries collected from 267 women, including both healthy individuals and those diagnosed with vaginitis. Viral community composition, diversity indices (Shannon, Richness, and Pielou), and phylogenetic characteristics were analyzed. Virus-host associations were also investigated.
RESULTS: DNA viruses…

INTRODUCTION: Bacterial vaginitis (BV) is a common vaginal disease. Vitamin E has been shown to reduce BV by enhancing immune function, but no studies have analyzed the relationship between vitamin E and BV at different BMIs and ages.
METHOD: This study used 2242 participants from four cycles of NHANES 1999-2006 in American. Participants' vitamin E levels were divided into four groups, and analyses such as study population description, stratified analysis, multiple logistic regression analysis, and curve fitting were performed. To perform data processing, the researchers used the statistical …

OBJECTIVE: The vaginal microbiome protects the female genital tract from various diseases, such as vaginitis, a vaginal inflammation characterized by abnormal discharge, itching, and pain. To evaluate the clinical relationship between the vaginal microbiome and the pathophysiology of recurrent vaginitis (RV), we investigated the microbiome taxonomic profile (MTP) in the vaginal samples of Korean female patients with RV.
METHODS: Forty women of reproductive age diagnosed with RV were enrolled. The vaginal MTP of patients was analyzed using 16S ribosomal RNA gene sequencing, and the results wer…

Vaginitis, also known as vulvovaginitis, is an inflammation of the vagina and vulva and a common disease in females. It is thought to be caused by vaginal dysbiosis and improved by probiotics. Bacterial vaginosis (BV) and vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC) are the major types of vaginal infections. The present systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to clarify the efficacy of probiotics in the treatment of common vaginal infections in non-pregnant females. Literature on randomized controlled trials and two-armed prospective studies on any intervention with probiotics published until December 24t…

INTRODUCTION: Cervico-vaginitis is usually the initial infection which, when undiagnosed, can evolve to salpingitis with tubal infertility, ectopic pregnancy, and chronic pelvic pain as consequences. This study aimed at identifying the sociodemographic profile and clinical presentation of women diagnosed with cervico-vaginitis, as well as the microorganisms isolated.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This cross-sectional, descriptive study was carried out between October 1, 2013, and March 31, 2014. Women diagnosed with cervico-vaginitis were recruited. The main variables recorded were maternal age, occ…

BACKGROUND: Vaginal symptoms are a leading cause of primary care visits for women. Individuals exhibiting symptoms often receive laboratory testing based on clinic-specific standards of care. Thus, women seen at a family practice clinic might only receive a vaginitis workup, whereas those seen at a sexually transmitted diseases clinic could be more likely to receive only sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing.
METHODS: The likelihood of STIs was assessed in women from whom samples were tested for vaginitis using a molecular diagnostic assay. Positivity rates for Chlamydia trachomatis, N…
