Biomechanical Parameters of Voice in Parkinson's Disease Patients.

INTRODUCTION: Previous research on voice in Parkinson's disease (PD) has consistently demonstrated alterations in acoustic parameters, including fundamental frequency (F0), maximum phonation time, Shimmer, and Jitter. However, investigations into acoustic parameter alterations in individuals with PD are limited. METHODS: We conducted an experimental study involving 20 PD patients (six women and fourteen men). Subjective measures of voice (VHI-30 scale and GRBAS) and objective measures using the OnlineLAB App tool for analyzing biomechanical correlates of voice were recorded. The app analyzed

VHI-10 Scores in a Treatment-Seeking Population With Dysphonia.

INTRODUCTION: The VHI-10 is a patient-reported outcome measure used to record the patient's perception of impairment or handicap due to a voice problem. Scores above 11 are abnormal and indicate voice handicap. Amongst a treatment-seeking population in a large tertiary voice center, scores below the VHI-10 cutoff score of 11 were frequently noted. The aim of this study was to examine the number of people seeking voice therapy for dysphonia who scored below the established VHI-10 cutoff score. METHODS: A retrospective chart review was completed of all patients attending a voice evaluation with

[The local and sensual conditions of delay of voice breaking in adolescent boys].

Disorders of voice breaking in adolescent boys (mutational dysphonia) could be a result of local, hormonal, neuropsychiatric or sensual factors. The aim of this paper was the voice assessment of three subjects with incomplete mutation with particular additional factors, disturbing hearing, voice and speech: like hearing loss, hyperfunctional childhood dysphonia and speech dysfluency. Diagnostics included complete phoniatric examination with perceptive estimation, videostroboscopy and acoustic voice analysis, done before and after treatment. Rehabilitation process results were well seen in perc

Vocal disorders and the professional voice user: the allergist's role.

BACKGROUND: As the modulating and power source for the voice, the upper and lower respiratory tracts play a key role in management of voice production. Allergic respiratory disease can impair vocalization, which can be a particular problem in the professional voice user. OBJECTIVE: The goal of this review is to facilitate the evaluation and management of professional voice users who have allergic respiratory problems contributing to their vocal dysfunction. This article discusses the anatomy and physiology of voice production, laryngeal pathology, and special diagnostic and therapeutic consid

Using Pitch Height and Pitch Strength to Characterize Type 1, 2, and 3 Voice Signals.

OBJECTIVE: Classifying dysphonic voices as type 1, 2, and 3 signals based on their periodicity enables researchers to determine the validity of acoustic measures derived from them. Existing methods of signal typing are commonly performed by listening to the voice sample and visualizing them on narrow-band spectrograms that require training, time, and are subjective in nature. The current study investigated pitch-based metrics (pitch height and pitch strength) as correlates to characterizing voice signal types. The computational estimates were validated with perceptual judgments of pitch height

Effect of Botulinum Toxin and Surgery among Spasmodic Dysphonia Patients.

Objective The effect of botulinum toxin among patients with adductor spasmodic dysphonia (AdSD) is temporary. To optimize long-term treatment outcome, other therapy options should be evaluated. Alternative treatment options for AdSD comprise several surgical treatments, such as thyroarytenoid myotomy, thyroplasty, selective laryngeal adductor denervation-reinnervation, laryngeal nerve crush, and recurrent laryngeal nerve resection. Here, we present the first systematic review comparing the effect of botulinum toxin with surgical treatment among patients diagnosed with AdSD. Data Sources MEDLIN

Investigation of four distinct glottal configurations in classical singing--a pilot study.

This study investigates four qualities of singing voice in a classically trained baritone: "naive falsetto," "countertenor falsetto," "lyrical chest" and "full chest." Laryngeal configuration and vocal fold behavior in these qualities were studied using laryngeal videostroboscopy, videokymography, electroglottography, and sound spectrography. The data suggest that the four voice qualities were produced by independently manipulating mainly two laryngeal parameters: (1) the adduction of the arytenoid cartilages and (2) the thickening of the vocal folds. An independent control of the posterior ad

[Morphological conditions of dysphonia in patients with vocal folds edema].

UNLABELLED: Disorders of voice quality are mostly influenced by organic changes in larynx. In the assessment of ultrastructure of vocal fold mucosa the most useful is the technique of transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The organic dysphonia is diagnosed by the perceptual, endoscopic (VLS) and stroboscopic (VLSS) assessment of larynx and acoustic assessment. The aim of the study was to determine morphological changes and voice quality disorders in patients with edema of larynx. MATERIAL AND METHODS: 40 patients with vocal folds edema (I group) and 10 patients with no pathological changes …

[Preliminary study of acoustic and aerodynamic parameters after Tucker frontal anterior laryngectomy].

Currently, not objective method has been demonstrated to be reliable for the evaluation of vocal handicap after partial laryngectomy. Such a tool would allow objective assessment of the post-operative voice and its clinical course as well as a comparison of different surgical techniques in terms of voice quality. We used a EVA device to measure simultaneously acoustic and aerodynamic parameters. We included 23 normal subjects and 34 patients who had undergone a Tucker laryngectomy. All subjects were males. At sustained voice production, acoustic measures of vibration stability (jitter, coeffic…
