OBJECTIVES: We evaluated the efficacy and short-term results of medial opening wedge high tibial osteotomy with the use of a Puddu plate in patients with medial compartment gonarthrosis.
METHODS: The study included 15 knees of 12 female patients (mean age 50.6 years; range 45 to 63 years) who were treated with medial opening wedge high tibial osteotomy for varus knees with medial compartment gonarthrosis. The osteotomy sites were fixed with a Puddu plate followed by allograft application. The mean follow-up period was 30.7 months (range 19 to 40 months).

OBJECTIVE: To explore an effective micro-trauma technic with small incision for hallux valgus.
METHODS: From August 2002 to June 2004, 136 cases (263 feet) with hallux valgus were treated with micro-trauma technic with small incision and postoperative external elastic fixation. Of all the cases, 7 were males and 129 were females. Their ages ranged from 19 to 84 years. According to Coughlin classification, there were 24 gentle cases, 63 medium cases, and 49 severe cases. All the feet were with some degree of pain and flatfoot. Symptom, sign and the results of X-ray were evaluated.

OBJECTIVE: To outline current concepts regarding the assessment and treatment of odontoid fractures.
SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: Odontoid fractures account for 9% to 15% of adult, cervical spine fractures. These injuries usually result from hyperflexion or hyperextension of the cervical spine during low-energy impacts in the elderly or high-energy impacts in the young and middle aged. Neurologic injury associated with these fractures is rare.
METHODS: A review of pertinent literature was conducted. The information gleaned from this review was summarized.

Fifty-three adults sustaining intracapsular femoral neck fractures (subcapital 38 and transcervical 15) with osteoporosis were treated primarily by osteosynthesis with valgus intertrochanteric osteotomy. A review was made of experiments on humans in which air trapping by glottis closure during three-dimensional movements were examined in four subjects including former Olympic gymnasts. OBJECTIVE: To assess the role of osteotomy at the time of bladder neck reconstruction (BNR) for continence in classic bladder exstrophy, in which closure of the pelvic ring and reconstitution of the pelvic diaphragm may affect eventual continence.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: The results of using osteotomy at the time of BNR in 29 children were reviewed. The mean bladder capacity before BNR was 76 mL. The indications for osteotomy were a wide pubic diastasis and a soft intersymphyseal bar. After osteotomy, all children were maintained in external fixation and lower-extremity traction for 6-8 weeks.

Fractures of the elbow joint are quite rare compared with the total incidence of injuries to the extremities. However, elbow fractures often result in significant disability. Posterior dislocation fracture of the shoulder is a rare injury that often occurs in association with a grand mal seizure. Our aim with this paper is to emphasize diagnosis and therapy. In a retrospective study 275 femoral-shaft fractures and 652 tibial respectively fibular fractures of the growing skeleton were evaluated. A posttraumatic limb length difference was present in 70% after femoral fractures and in 40% following fractures of the lower leg. In the control group of 822 examined persons we found an idiopathic difference of the length of the limb in 25%. Following femoral fractures the limb length difference was in average 10 mm.
