We examined the effects of glutathione (GSH) preconditioning through the portal vein on rat warm liver ischemia reperfusion injury (I/R injury) and investigated the mechanisms involved. In rats with warm liver I/R injury, administration of GSH by means of the portal vein before ischemia increased the 7-day survival rates of rats after liver I/R from 38% to 75%. Cardiac computed tomography (CT) angiography permits detection of myocardial scars through "late enhancement." We report the case of a patient with suspected cardiac sarcoidosis. Because of implanted defibrillator leads, magnetic resonance imaging was not possible. Dual-source CT with intravenous contrast injection was used as an alternative technique to detect late myocardial enhancement. A 56 years male diabetic patient presented with recurrent left upper lobe pneumonia. Fiberoptic bronchoscopy revealed extraluminal compression of left main bronchus with an endobronchial mass obstructing the left upper lobe orifice. The lesion resembled bronchial adenoma. However histological examination revealed mucormycosis. Timely diagnosis followed by medical intervention with intravenous Amphotericin B, coupled with proper management of diabetes, ablated the tumor. Relevant literature on the subject is reviewed.

Behçet's disease (BD) is a chronic relapsing-remitting inflammatory disorder of unknown origin, affecting multiple organs. Neurological involvement is one of the most devastating manifestations of BD and may be fatal. We report a 36-year-old woman with neuro-Behçet who was treated with low-dose pulse cyclophosphamide (St. Thomas' protocol) and methylprednisolone, with almost complete clinical remission.

A carcinoid crisis is a severe complication of the carcinoid syndrome that can arise in patients with advanced metastatic neuroendocrine tumors. It can be initiated by stress, catecholamines, and tumor manipulation. In this article, we report a case in which an injection with the catecholamine tracer 6-18F-fluorodihydroxyphenylalanine, used for PET, induced a carcinoid crisis. Octreotide can be used for treatment and should be available. Tracer injection should be slow.
