The study evaluates the efficacy of tryptorelin treatment in cases of acne and hirsutism associated with polycystic ovarian (PCO) disease. This non-comparative open study in a sample population of 20 young patients who wished to have children demonstrates the reduction of the hirsutism and acne score after six months' treatment. A review was made of 706 ectopic pregnancies treated at Howard University Hospital over a 20-year period. Comparison of two 10-year periods was made with special regard to the association of an inflammatory process in the involved tube. Two-dimensional echocardiographic imaging of the mitral valve orifice was attempted in 26 patients with isolated mitral stenosis. The intention was to examine further the clinical usefulness and limitations of this technique for estimating the severity of mitral stenosis. A three year old Thoroughbred filly was examined because of bilateral nasal discharge and external swelling of the left laryngeal area. Endoscopy revealed an enlarged left arytenoid cartilage, left laryngeal hemiplegia and drainage of purulent material into the lumen of the larynx. Sonographic diagnosis of spondylodiscitis is described in a 21-month-old girl who presented with altered gait. Spondylodiscitis, also referred to as discitis-osteomyelitis, is an infection of the intervertebral disc and adjacent vertebrae. The imaging modality of choice is spinal magnetic resonance imaging. Our case is the first description in the English language of the sonographic diagnosis of spondylodiscitis. Pediatric radiologists and sonographers should be acquainted with its features, for both incidental and intentional diagnosis.

Recent viral hemorrhagic fever (VHF) disease outbreaks caused by Ebola virus (EBOV) and Marburg virus (MARV) in West Africa are unique and alarming. The intents of this editorial are to highlight what is known about these viruses and the disease outbreaks that they cause in the African continent and elsewhere and to raise awareness of a related virus called Lassa virus (LASV) that causes endemic viral hemorrhagic fever infections and frequent outbreaks in West Africa.

A female patient with significant coagulopathy is presented for case discussion. This case represented a presumed Munchausen exposure to commercially available rat poison that contained one of the superwarfarin chemicals, brodifacoum. Review of the medical literature is undertaken to discuss the diagnostic approach and treatment of superwarfarin exposure. The accidental or intentional exposure to this group of rodenticide represents a significant public health problem that often is not considered by primary care physicians when confronted with coagulopathy.

The authors report a patient with a right frontal stroke who, despite the ability to draw clocks accurately from memory, translocated numbers on the inferior half of the dial to the superior half when copying a clock. In further graphic and verbal clock reproduction tasks, transpositions were always directed toward the model but disappeared in a delayed copying task. These findings appear to reflect an intentional disorder characterized by pathologic approach behavior.

We present results obtained in our first series of 25 patient treated by prolassomucosectomy for haemorrhoidal prolapse with a follow up of 18-36 months. Control of the disease and functional results proved to be optimal. After small early haemorrhages from the suture line, we started adding stitch sutures with haemostatic intent to all three vascular pedicles. Early or late additional complication were not observed.

Since 1985, 534 severely discolored teeth have been treated with intentional endodontics and internal bleaching; of these, 258 were treated with the conventional technique and 276 were treated with the modified technique. Six years of clinical and radiographic evaluation revealed that the results obtained with the first group (conventional technique) remain stable and that a very noticeable improvement has been achieved with the second group of teeth, treated with the modified technique.

13 patients who had used violent means of parasuicide, e.g. jumping from a height and hanging were compared with 19 wrist-slashers. The former had significantly higher 24-hour urinary cortisol levels and significantly lower 24-hour norepinephrine to epinephrine ratio. It would seem that in conjunction with the other established neuroendocrine markers, the above-mentioned tests can be of assistance in determination of suicidal intent.
