Combined impact of depressive and anxiety symptoms and cardiovascular health metrics on major adverse cardiovascular events: A prospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: The interplay between psychological health and traditional cardiovascular health (CVH) metrics, and their joint impact on the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), remain unclear. METHODS: This study investigated the prospective association of depressive and anxiety symptoms, assessed by Patient Health Questionnaire-4 (PHQ-4) scores, and traditional CVH, measured by Life's Essential 8 (LE8) scores, with MACE risk in the UK Biobank cohort. MACE was defined as a composite of nonfatal myocardial infarction, nonfatal stroke, and cardiovascular mortality. Cox proportional

The Longitudinal Mediating Effect of Emotion Regulation Strategies on the Reciprocal Relationship Between Parental Psychological Control and Problematic Internet Use : A Three-Wave Cross-Lagged Panel Analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Problematic internet use (PIU) becomes increasingly prevalent among rural Chinese adolescents. Previous studies have identified parental psychological control (PPC) and emotion regulation strategies as strong predictors of PIU. However, there is limited studies exploring the longitudinal dynamics between contextual and individual factors and PIU, which is crucial for developing culturally responsive interventions. Therefore, based on the Psychological Decompensation Hypothesis and the Child Effect Model, the present research aimed to investigate the reciprocal relationship betwee

The paradox of informal caregiving: benefits and harms to mental health in the context of sense of divine control.

OBJECTIVES: This research examines whether a sense of divine control modifies nonlinear associations between frequency of caregiving for individuals with a chronic health condition or a limitation and two aspects of psychological distress (depression and anxiety symptomology). METHODS: Data were derived from the Caregiving, Aging, and Financial Experiences Study, a national longitudinal study of Canadians aged 65-85 (x̄ = 71.8) collected in 2021 and 2022 (N = 2,420). Within-between models tested nonlinear associations between caregiving and the distress outcomes, examining two types of associ

Effect of Depression on Quality of Life among Women Living with HIV in Gondar Town, Northwest, Ethiopia, Prospective Cohort Study.

Depression is highly prevalent among women living with HIV (WLHIV) and is linked to poor quality of life (QoL), impaired functioning, and negative treatment outcomes. While studies in high-income settings report strong associations between depression, stigma, social support, and QoL, evidence from low-resource contexts such as Ethiopia remains limited. This study examined the relationship between depression and QoL among 627 WLHIV on stable antiretroviral therapy (ART) for at least six months. Data were collected prospectively at three-month intervals between September 2023 and April 2024 usin

The relationship between work requirements and mental distress in hospital staff: the chain mediating effects of rumination and work recovery classes.

BACKGROUND: Heavy work requirements can lead to significant increases in depression anxiety and stress among hospital staff. However, there is limited research considering the role of work recovery (WR) and rumination in this relationship, particularly how poor WR can create a vicious cycle of negative psychological outcomes for medical staff. OBJECTIVE: In this cross-sectional observational study, the aim is to explore high-risk WR classes among hospital staff. By constructing chain mediation models according to the WR classes, the study seeks to identify which class of medical staff is most

Association of Chewing Difficulty and Number of Remaining Teeth with Anxiety (GAD-7) Among Korean Adults: Evidence from the 2023 KNHANES.

Background: Oral health is increasingly recognized as a determinant of overall well-being, but its role in mental health remains underexplored. Chewing difficulty and tooth loss can impair nutrition, social interaction, and quality of life, thereby contributing to psychological distress. Objectives: This study examined the association between oral health indicators and anxiety among Korean adults. Methods: Data were obtained from 4746 adults aged ≥19 years who participated in the 2023 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES). Anxiety was assessed using the Generalized A

Validity Concerns About the Heartbeat Counting Task Extend to Alcohol Use disorder: Evidence From Subclinical and Clinical Samples.

Theoretical models propose that interoception plays a role in addictive disorder. However, this assumption has been mostly tested using the heartbeat counting task (HCT), which is known to be contaminated by estimation strategies. An adapted version of the HCT (in which respondents report only felt heartbeats) has been developed to reduce estimation biases. Here, we examined the validity of the classical and adapted HCT versions in samples presenting alcohol use disorders. We recruited a clinical sample of 48 patients with severe alcohol use disorder (SAUD), matched with 41 healthy controls (H

The Pelvic Pain Bias Assessment: a new assessment of interpretation bias specific to pelvic pain.

Pelvic pain is a common and often debilitating experience with limited treatment options. Improving understanding of the psychosocial mechanisms involved in pelvic pain experiences will enhance the efficacy of pain management interventions. Interpretation bias is a promising psychosocial factor in leading models of chronic pain, yet its relevance for pelvic pain remains poorly understood. The current study sought to assess disorder specific interpretation bias in people with endometriosis and other pelvic pain-related conditions. To do so, we developed a new interpretation bias assessment tool

Androgenic alopecia is associated with higher dietary inflammatory index and lower antioxidant index scores.

BACKGROUND: Androgenic alopecia (AGA), the most prevalent hair loss type, causes major psychological distress and reduced quality of life. A definite and safe cure/prevention for this condition is still lacking. The role of oxidative stress and inflammation in AGA pathogenesis prompted us to investigate the association between dietary antioxidant index (DAI) and energy-adjusted dietary inflammatory index (E-DII) with AGA. METHODS: The investigation was designed based on data from 10,138 participants from the Fasa Adult Cohort Study (FACS). DAI and energy-adjusted DII (E-DII) were calculated u

Salivary Diurnal Cortisol Predicts Post-Traumatic Stress Symptoms in Parents of Infants With Congenital Heart Disease.

BACKGROUND: Parents of infants born with congenital heart disease (CHD) who require open heart surgery after birth are at risk for prolonged psychological distress. Even after their infants are discharged, parents may experience anxiety, depressive, and post-traumatic stress (PTS) symptoms; yet, it is unclear which parents are at greater risk for ongoing symptoms. The purpose of this study was to explore whether measures of the biomarker cortisol in parents during their infants' postoperative period were associated with subsequent psychological distress symptoms at three-month post discharge.
