Identifying Key Predictors of Nursing Workload in Emergency Infusion Rooms: A Decision Tree Approach.

Purpose: Accurate assessment of nursing workload is essential for staffing allocation and operational management in emergency infusion rooms. However, workload generation is influenced by complex and potentially nonlinear interactions among patient volume, treatment duration, and care activities, which may not be adequately captured by conventional statistical approaches. This study aimed to identify key predictors associated with nursing workload intensity and develop an interpretable workload stratification framework using a Classification and Regression Tree (CRT) model. Methods: Daily oper

Knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding transfusion-related acute lung injury among healthcare providers in Jiangsu: a multicenter cross-sectional study.

This cross-sectional survey evaluated the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of healthcare providers regarding transfusion-related acute lung injury (TRALI) in Jiangsu from March to May 2025. A self-administered questionnaire was distributed, with 746 valid responses analyzed. Respondents were predominantly female (76.5%), employed in tertiary hospitals (88.2%), and held a bachelor's degree or lower (81.6%), with nurses comprising 67.3% of participants. Only 34.5% had received formal TRALI-related training in the past three years. Knowledge, attitude, and practice scores were 22.49 ± 2.

Advance care planning in the end-of-life phase: coordinating between social worlds.

Advance care planning (ACP) for people in the last phase of life, living at home with complex care needs, is increasingly seen as a valuable practice to deliver patient-centred care and to prevent unnecessary hospitalizations and delay nursing home admissions. A notable difficulty of ACP is the coordination of ACP-practices over various domains involved in patient care (e.g. home care, GP care, hospital care). We draw on ethnographic data on ACP practices in home care, GP-care and hospital care in the Netherlands. We use social worlds theory to analyse the different information requirements of

Perioperative Considerations in Patients With Concussion.

Concussions affect the normal functioning of the autonomic nervous system and glucose metabolism, impair cerebral autoregulation to Paco₂, and produce abnormal variances in myogenic and vagal tone. Because anesthesia also has an impact on these same processes, it is vital to delineate the best practice in the perianesthesia period to minimize additional damage to the concussed brain. There are currently no practice guidelines surrounding perianesthesia management of patients with concussion to guide practice. To answer 4 clinically pertinent questions for nurse anesthesia practice, the authors

Kienböck's disease: A rare wrist disorder in a young male.

Kienböck's disease is a rare disorder involving the lunate, one of the carpal bones, and is, therefore, not commonly included in the differential diagnosis of patients presenting to the emergency department with wrist pain. Delay in diagnosis inevitably leads to disease progression, thereby reducing surgical options. This article presents a patient's case including patient history, differential diagnosis, radiographic findings, and management. The challenges in the diagnosis of this disease are discussed in relation to significance to clinical practice for nurse practitioners and emergency dep

[Genetic counseling].

The emergence of molecular genetics into a routine medical service is demanding a paradigm shift in medical practice. An adequate reformation of its discipline and technology is required in every field of medical service including nursing. In 2000, the JFCR hospital founded a Familial Cancer Center to provide genetic counseling and genetic testing for cancer patents. Based upon our experiences with 250 families having various cancers, we have attempted to extract issues to be addressed in further detail.

Newborn screening and genetic testing.

Mandated newborn screening programs for genetic and other congenital conditions for the some 4 million infants born in the United States each year have seen dramatic changes over the past decade. With the mapping of the human genome and other advances in science and technology, there will be continued challenges to and changes in these programs. Nurses who care for infants and their families should be knowledgeable about those changes to correctly transmit information to families and to participate in determining policy for newborn screening practices.

Informed choices for long-term benefits. The management of catheters in continence care.

1. Non-invasive methods of managing urinary dysfunction should be considered as alternatives to long-term catheterisation and reviewed on a regular basis. 2. Nurses must match choice of catheter and drainage equipment with the individual patient, to enhance self-care and independence. 3. Monitoring of catheter life can establish a pattern of recurrent blockage and allow pro-active, planned recatheterisation. 4. Good handwashing practice is important in catheter management to reduce the risk of cross-infection.

Problems involved with the use of comforters.

Comforters have been associated with three areas of concern for the dental profession: rampant caries, malocclusion and gingival recession. The most serious of these, rampant caries, is associated with the practice of sweetening the comforter. Every effort should be made to eliminate this hazard to the dentition by means of dental health education for the community, especially of pregnant and nursing mothers. An open question remains on whether unsweetened dummy sucking should be promoted in order to intercept malocclusions likely to arise from digit sucking.

Nursing care for a patient with multiple organ fistulas and severe malnutrition-sarcopenia syndrome following surgery for irradiated rectal cancer: a case report.

This case report presented a unique, integrated nursing management strategy for a 47-year-old male with extreme complexity arising from radiation-induced enterovesical fistula and severe malnutrition-sarcopenia syndrome following irradiated rectal cancer surgery, addressing a critical literature gap in systematic protocols for high-mortality cases. It demonstrated the practical application and sequencing of advanced, refined interventions within a Damage Control Surgery (DCS) framework, offering a replicable model. Key admission findings included severe metabolic derangement (BMI 13.2 kg/m2, s

[SURGICAL "NEVER EVENTS" IN THE ANTERIOR CERVICAL APPROACH].

This article deals with incidents which involved damages that could have been prevented. This includes patients who have been suffocated and have suffered irreversible damage, unfortunately, as far as we know, due to the powerlessness of the medical staff who did not act suitably. The disasters have happened as a result of upper respiratory airway obstruction by a blood clot (retropharyngeal hematoma) that developed as a complication after an anterior cervical surgery (spine/carotid artery) or after a sharp cervical injury. The main question that derives from the following cases is whether it

Community Nurses as Gender-Responsive Social Prescribing Facilitators for Women's Psychosocial Health and Well-Being in China: A Qualitative Thematic Study.

BACKGROUND: In China, women's psychosocial health is shaped by social, cultural, family, economic, and healthcare-related factors that extend beyond biomedical care. Community nurses often encounter hidden emotional distress, caregiving burden, loneliness, family pressure, and unmet social needs during routine practice. Social prescribing, a structured process that connects people with non-clinical community resources, may help address these needs. However, the role of nurses in gender-responsive social prescribing remains underexplored in China. OBJECTIVE: This study explored how community n
