Effects of the Disease Characteristics and the Treatment on Psychological Status in Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis and Ankylosing Spondylitis.

INTRODUCTION: Various psychiatric disorders, especially depression and anxiety, are seen in 2/3 of the chronic rheumatic diseases with chronic pain. In this study, we aimed to define anxiety and depression rates in Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) patients (under treatment) with similar age and gender; to compare the obtained data with each other and healthy control group; and also we aimed to investigate the relationship between human leukocyte antigen B27(HLA-B27) in AS, Rheumatoid Factor (RF) and anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide antibodies (anti-CCP) in RA with anx

Association between ethnicity and migration status with the prevalence of single and multiple long-term conditions in UK healthcare workers.

BACKGROUND: Healthcare workers' (HCW) well-being has a direct effect on patient care. However, little is known about the prevalence and patterns of long-term medical conditions in HCWs, especially those from ethnic minorities. This study evaluated the burden of multiple long-term conditions (MLTCs), i.e. the presence of two or more single long-term conditions (LTCs), among HCWs in the United Kingdom (UK) and variation by ethnicity and migration status. METHODS: We used baseline data from the UK-REACH cohort study collected December 2020-March 2021. We used multivariable logistic regression, a

ABO Blood Group and Cochlear Status: Otoacoustic Emission Markers.

OBJECTIVES: There are an increasing number of research studies examining the effects of ABO blood group on susceptibility to disease. However, little is known regarding the potential relationship between blood group and hearing. Higher risk of noise-induced hearing loss was linked to blood group O in several occupational health studies. Based on this finding, a recent study of cochlear status was conducted with normal-hearing female participants representing equal numbers of the four blood groups in the ABO blood group system. ABO blood group was associated with cochlear characteristics, inclu

Usability and effectiveness of a novel bilateral upper limb training device for stroke patients with hemiparesis: a pilot randomized controlled study.

BACKGROUND: Rehabilitation for stroke patients with upper extremity (UE) dysfunction remains challenging in terms of promoting motor recovery and restoring functional independence. Device-assisted training has been introduced in clinical practice; however, its benefits still need to be evaluated, and there is a continued need for innovative solutions. In this study, we developed Synslai, a novel and non-powered mechanical UE rehabilitation device based on the principle of bilateral training (BT) that supports self-initiated UE training. It also facilitates patient autonomy and engagement in re

Long-Term Associations of a Mobile-Based Chronic Disease Management Program With Employee Health: Four-Year Retrospective Cohort Study.

BACKGROUND: The burden of hypertension (HTN), type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM), and obesity is increasing among employees, driven by workplace-related factors such as sedentary behavior and unhealthy lifestyles, while follow-up management after health checkups remains inadequate. Mobile health (mHealth) interventions have emerged as promising tools to support self-management and sustain lifestyle changes; however, evidence regarding their long-term associations in real-world occupational settings remains limited. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate whether a short-term mobile-based chroni

Electric field-induced inflammatory and angiogenic responses in rat female reproductive tissues: evidence for early extracellular matrix remodeling.

High-intensity electric fields (EFs) are increasingly encountered in occupational and environmental settings, raising concerns regarding their potential biological effects on hormonally responsive organs. However, the cellular and molecular responses of female reproductive tissues to short-term exposure to high-voltage EFs remain insufficiently characterized. This study aims to investigate EF-associated histopathological and immunohistochemical alterations in major female reproductive organs. Forty adult female Wistar albino rats were randomly assigned to five experimental groups (n = 8 per gr

Repeated Silica exposures lead to Silicosis severity via PINK1/PARKIN mediated mitochondrial dysfunction in mice model.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Silicosis, one of the occupational health illnesses is caused by inhalation of crystalline silica. Deposition of extracellular matrix and fibroblast proliferation in lungs are linked to silicosis development. Mitochondrial dysfunction plays critical role in some diseases, but how these processes progress and regulated in silicosis, remains limited. Detailed study of silica induced pulmonary fibrosis in mouse model, its progression and severity may be helpful in designing future therapeutic strategies. METHODS: In present study, mice model of silicosis has been devel

Blade-plate fixation for distal femoral fractures: a case-control study.

BACKGROUND: The blade-plate is the earliest of the contemporary internal fixation devices introduced for distal femoral fractures. The recent development of dedicated, fixation devices has considerably limited its use. The objective of this study was to evaluate outcomes after blade-plate fixation and after fixation using other devices. HYPOTHESIS: Outcomes after blade-plate fixation are similar to those after condylar screw-plate, distal femoral nail, or locking condylar plate fixation. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We reviewed outcomes after 62 patients managed with blade-plate fixation and includ

Process evaluation of a participatory ergonomics programme to prevent low back pain and neck pain among workers.

BACKGROUND: Both low back pain (LBP) and neck pain (NP) are major occupational health problems. In the workplace, participatory ergonomics (PE) is frequently used on musculoskeletal disorders. However, evidence on the effectiveness of PE to prevent LBP and NP obtained from randomised controlled trials (RCTs) is scarce. This study evaluates the process of the Stay@Work participatory ergonomics programme, including the perceived implementation of the prioritised ergonomic measures. METHODS: This cluster-RCT was conducted at the departments of four Dutch companies (a railway transportation compa

[Comparative study of substance dependence comorbidity in bipolar, schizophrenic and schizoaffective disorders].

Epidemiological studies such as the Epidemiological Catchment Area survey have shown that bipolar or schizophrenic patients are especially prone to display a comorbid substance use disorder. These studies have demonstrated that this comorbidity condition constitutes a major mental health problem owing to its high frequency. The aim of the present study was to assess the prevalence of a comorbid substance use disorder in a sample of psychotic patients, and to compare the pattern of street drug use in schizophrenic, schizoaffective and bipolar patients. Comorbidity of illicit substance use disor

Functional Outcomes of Young Adults with Childhood ADHD: A Latent Profile Analysis.

Adults with childhood attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) experience impairment in core functional domains (e.g., educational attainment, occupational status, social relationships, substance abuse, and criminal behavior), but it is currently unclear which impairments co-occur and whether subgroups experience differentiable patterns, none, or all aforementioned functional domains. Latent profile analysis (LPA) was used to characterize patterns of impairment. Data from the Pittsburgh ADHD Longitudinal Study were used. The 317 participants were 25 years old and had childhood ADHD. LPA
