[Late results of ureterosigmoidostomy in treating extrophy of the bladder (author's transl)].

26 children with extrophy of the bladder were treated surgically during a period of 23 years. In all cases a ureterosigmoidostomy was performed with a follow up of 1-22 years in 15 of 26 cases. In 9 children the clinical, radiological, and biochemical findings were good in 4 satisfying and 2 bad due to hydronephrosis and electrolyte disturbances. The authors recommend direct implantation of the ureters into the rectosigmoid, according to the technique of Goodwin. This approach is simple from a technical point of view and the immediate and late complications are less frequent than with other me

Embryological and Pathophysiological Perspectives on a Rare Association of Sirenomelia with Anencephaly and Spina Bifida.

Sirenomelia is a severe developmental anomaly that manifests as the existence of a single lower limb due to fusion or the absence of one or more lower limb bones. We report a case of sirenomelia that occurred in conjunction with anencephaly and spina bifida. Numerous systems, including the genitourinary and gastrointestinal systems, have been implicated in the condition. In the present case, a single kidney, a single ureter, and an inflated and blind sigmoid colon were found following fetal dissection. In addition, the umbilical cord was histologically examined and revealed the presence of a s

A rare case of epiploic appendagitis of the vermiform appendix.

Epiploic appendagitis is a rare and often overlooked cause of acute abdominal pain that can mimic more common surgical conditions such as acute appendicitis or diverticulitis. Most reported cases involve the sigmoid or descending colon, whereas epiploic appendagitis occurring near the vermiform appendix is extremely rare. We report the case of a 57-year-old woman who presented with acute right lower quadrant pain initially suspected to be acute appendicitis. Computed tomography revealed inflammation of the epiploic appendage adjacent to the base of the appendix, with mild reactive appendicitis

Helicobacter pylori-positive Colorectal MALT Lymphoma with Repeated Metachronous Recurrence after a Complete Response to Eradication Therapy and Regression after a Watch-and-wait Strategy.

A 77-year-old man underwent a colonoscopy. A submucosal cecal tumor was found, and localized colorectal MALT lymphoma (Lugano stage I) was diagnosed with a Helicobacter pylori infection. The first-line eradication therapy was successful, and the cecal lesion regressed. However, a new lesion was observed in the lower rectum. The rectal lesion regressed after the second-line eradication therapy. Two new lesions were identified in the sigmoid colon. However, no additional treatment was administered and a watch-and-wait strategy was adopted. Both of the lesions regressed. There are no established

Diverticulitis Causing Failure of Deep Inferior Epigastric Flap Harvest in Breast Reconstruction.

The deep inferior epigastric perforator flap is the gold standard in autologous tissue reconstruction after mastectomies. During the course of the dissection of the pedicle for this flap, one must peel the deep inferior epigastric artery off the peritoneum. In rare occasions, scarring from previous abdominal surgery can result in adherence of the deep inferior epigastric artery to the peritoneum. In this report, we describe a patient with adherence of the pedicle to the sigmoid colon due to diverticulitis in the absence of surgical history, which resulted in failure of flap harvest and long-te

Synchronous Triple Primary Gastrointestinal Tract Malignancies: A Case Report.

Multiple primary malignant neoplasms are defined as the occurrence of two or more distinct malignant neoplasms in a single patient. However, synchronous triple primary malignant neoplasms have rarely been reported. We present the case of a 54-year-old male patient who was referred to our outpatient clinic after abnormal findings were detected during upper gastrointestinal endoscopy screening at a local clinic. Comprehensive evaluation using endoscopy, computed tomography, and positron emission tomography led to the simultaneous diagnosis of early gastric, early esophageal, and sigmoid colon ca

[Obstructive colitis induced by laxatives during colonoscopy preparation after ischemic enteritis and improved by endoscopic fecal removal: a case report].

An 84-year-old male patient who was diagnosed with melena was admitted to the hospital with ischemic colitis. During the preparatory procedure for colonoscopy, he reported severe abdominal pain and exhibited decreased blood pressure. Obstructive colitis was suspected, and a colonoscopy was performed. A large amount of hard stool was found in the sigmoid colon, with ulcers and erosions exposing the submucosal layer observed on the proximal side. The endoscope was able to pass through the ileocecal region, and the patient's symptoms subsequently improved. The decline in intestinal function follo

May 18F-FAPI PET/CT differentiate Sutures granuloma from metastasis? A case report.

A 35-year-old woman received a surgery of sigmoid colon highly differentiated mucosal adenocarcinoma with greater omentum and peritoneum metastasis. The follow-up contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) revealed a new enhanced nodule on the transverse mesocolon about 6 months after surgery. Fluorine-18-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) and 18F-fibroblast activation protein inhibitor (FAPI) positron emission tomography (PET)/CT were both performed to evaluate the potential lesions systematically, PET/CT images showed low 18F-FDG activity but very little 18F-FAPI activity in the nodule on the trans

Apoptotic colopathy as a manifestation of Good's syndrome.

The case was a 44-year-old patient with four years of evolution of respiratory infections, fever, weight loss of 30 kg and chronic diarrhea with inconclusive colonoscopy studies, managed as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), with a history of thymomectomy four years previously. On physical examination, there was severe protein-calorie malnutrition, skin lesions compatible with herpes simplex infection and lower limb edema. Blood tests were requested when pancytopenia and hypoalbuminemia were negative for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Chest tomography showed a budding tree pattern and bron

Endoscopic and Surgical Management of Blue Rubber Bleb Nevus Syndrome.

Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome is a rare congenital sporadic disorder characterized by multiple venous malformations localized in the skin, gastrointestinal tract, and internal organs. Gastrointestinal lesions tend to lead to massive or occult bleeding and iron deficiency anemia. The treatment of symptomatic gastrointestinal venous malformations remains a challenge, especially in the setting of recurrent blood loss anemia. An endoscopic approach may be required for refractory cases. We present a case of a 20-year-old patient with blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome with multiple lesions in the st
