[Learning potential and cognitive remediation in schizophrenia].

BACKGROUND: Many studies have stressed the importance of neurocognitive deficits in schizophrenia that represent a core feature of the pathology. Cognitive dysfunctions are present in 80% of schizophrenic patients, including deficits in attention, memory, speed processing and executive functioning, with well-known functional consequences on daily life, social functioning and rehabilitation outcome. Recent studies have stressed that cognitive deficits, rather than the positive or negative symptoms of schizophrenia, predict poor performance in basic activities of daily living. If it is possible

Family preferences for home or hospital care at diagnosis for children with diabetes in the DECIDE study.

AIMS: A diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes in childhood can be a difficult life event for children and families. For children who are not severely ill, initial home rather than hospital-based care at diagnosis is an option although there is little research on which is preferable. Practice varies widely, with long hospital stays in some countries and predominantly home-based care in others. This article reports on the comparative acceptability and experience of children with Type 1 diabetes and their parents taking part in the DECIDE study evaluating outcomes of home or hospital-based treatment from

METHODS: A randomised controlled two-armed, assessor-blinded trial with three-week follow-up to evaluate SMP. Primary outcomes were the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-20) and the Effective Musculoskeletal Consumer Scale (EC-17), while s

Qualitative study to explore Prospect Theory and message framing and diet and cancer prevention-related issues among African American adolescents.

BACKGROUND: There is a dearth of knowledge regarding factors that may motivate African American adolescents to consume healthier diets. OBJECTIVE: To develop and test cancer prevention messages based on Prospect Theory on motivation to improve dietary intake in African American adolescents and to explore other salient factors that may inform dietary intervention design and implementation in this population. METHODS: Semistructured in-person qualitative interviews were conducted with 13 African American male and female adolescents, aged 12 to 16 years, in North Carolina. Prospect Theory and m

Adolescents' attitudes toward gender roles and women's empowerment in Oman.

This study investigated the attitudes of Omani adolescents towards gender roles and women's empowerment in taking household decisions, and the determinants of their positive attitudes. A national representative secondary school-based sample of 1670 boys and 1675 girls completed a self-administrated questionnaire with 2 indices: Adolescents' Attitudes Towards Gender Roles and Adolescents' Attitudes Towards Women's Empowerment. Perceived service quality and tourist' pro-environmental behavior: The mediating role of destination psychological ownership and the moderating role of self-improvement motivation.

The paramount significance of tourist' pro-environmental behavior (TPEB) in propelling the sustainable evolution of tourist destinations cannot be underscored sufficiently. Despite the ubiquitous acknowledgment of perceived service quality (PSQ) as a pivotal antecedent to nurturing favorable tourist experiences and behaviors, the specific mechanisms underlying its influence on TPEB remains under-explored. This study proposes a moderated mediation model to delve into the intricate interplay between PSQ and TPEB, by examining the mediating influence of destination psychological ownership (DPO) a

Claws, consequences and coexistence: Local community attitudes toward large carnivores in mountain landscapes.

Human attitudes toward large carnivores are shaped by multiple interrelated socio-psychological factors, yet conservation interventions often focus on reducing material impacts while paying less attention to underlying attitude drivers. We investigated attitudes towards three large carnivore species: Persian leopard (Panthera pardus), grey wolf (Canis lupus), and brown bear (Ursus arctos) among communities around Golestan National Park, Iran. Using interview data from 292 participants across 30 villages, we applied Bayesian structural equation modelling to examine how cognitive beliefs, social

The "silver economy" of women's health: entrepreneurship and service models in China's menopause health sector.

Menopause health services in China lie at the critical juncture of the "silver economy" and women's health. As society ages and health awareness grows, the needs of roughly 160 million middle-aged women are moving to the forefront, creating a vast blue ocean market. This study constructs a "Demand-Supply-Empowerment" Interaction Model, identifying the core market conflict as the clash between widespread "physical/psychological distress" and a "mismatched service system." We explore the authentic experiences, needs, and behaviors of contemporary Chinese women. Using web crawling, we gathered ab

Item analyses of the 20-item prosopagnosia index using classical test theory and item response theory.

The 20-item prosopagnosia index (PI20) is a highly practical tool for assessing lifelong difficulties in face processing across individuals (developmental prosopagnosia). Recent research suggests that the quality of the PI20 may vary depending on the item; however, the quantitative quality of each item has not been sufficiently examined. In this study, the item properties of the PI20 were investigated using classical test theory and item response theory. The analyses confirmed that the one-factor structure of the PI20 showed high reliability and validity. Item response theory further revealed

[Construction of obesity self-management education and support framework].

Obesity is a chronic metabolic disease requiring long-term intervention and sustained behavioral management. Given the current paucity of systematic education and support standards in obesity care, this paper proposes the obesity self-management education and support (OSMES) framework, modeled on the mature theoretical and practical foundations of diabetes self-management education and support framework. Grounded in the L.I.F.E.care four-dimensional model: load management (L), integration fitness (I), form optimization (F), and equilibrium mindset (E). The framework establishes 6 core standard

A Phase-Oriented Framework for Emotion Regulation in Traumatized Individuals With Dissociation: A Narrative Review.

Symptoms of emotion dysregulation and dissociation are common among people with a history of psychological trauma, and can complicate treatment effectiveness. Phase-based approaches to treatments, which begin with a stabilization and skills phase before moving to trauma-oriented interventions allow for flexible, integrable, and effective approaches that can be applied across various therapeutic modalities and delivery contexts. This narrative review describes empirically supported methods (e.g., Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) for targeting emotion dysregulation within phase-based treatments f

Mental health problems among ethnic minorities during public crises: a systematic review of coping strategies during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Public health crises exert a disproportionate psychological burden on ethnic minority populations, exacerbating pre-existing health disparities. Drawing upon the COVID-19 pandemic as a focal case, this systematic review synthesizes the coping strategies employed by ethnic minority communities, organized through the lens of ecological systems theory. Adhering to PRISMA guidelines, 65 peer-reviewed studies published between 2020 and 2023 were analyzed. The synthesis identified a multi-tiered coping response: (1) individual-level cognitive-emotional regulation and faith-based practices; (2) micro

The effect of AI-enabled virtual patient simulation on training outcomes and insecurities in psychotherapy education.

BACKGROUND: Preparing psychotherapy trainees for clinical complexity is a persistent educational challenge. Virtual patient (VP) simulations enabled by artificial intelligence (AI) may enhance training by offering practical, hands-on experience. This study examined their effectiveness in improving training outcomes and reducing insecurity in future psychotherapists. METHODS: Psychology students and psychotherapy trainees (N = 87) were randomly assigned to four online 2D-VP sessions with automated feedback or pre-recorded role-play videos. Pre- and post-assessments measured perceived psychothe

Beyond mindfulness: how Buddhist meditation transforms consciousness through distinct psychological pathways.

Buddhist meditation, encompassing practices such as Samatha (focused attention), Vipassana (open monitoring), and Metta (loving-kindness), offers unique pathways for transforming consciousness beyond conventional mindfulness. In this article, we review the studies that explore how these distinct meditative techniques systematically cultivate meta-cognitive insight, emotional regulation, and self-inquiry, facilitating profound shifts in awareness and personal growth. Recent neuroscience and psychology studies show that these techniques influence the mind in different ways: they strengthen atten
