The effect of oral appliances that advanced the mandible forward and limited mouth opening in patients with obstructive sleep apnea: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials.

Oral appliances (OAs) have demonstrated efficacy in treating obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), but many different OA devices are available. The Japanese Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine supported the use of OAs that advanced the mandible forward and limited mouth opening and suggested an evaluation of their effects in comparison with untreated or CPAP. A systematic search was undertaken in 16 April 2012. The outcome measures of interest were as follows: Apnea Hypopnea Index (AHI), lowest SpO2 , arousal index, Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), the SF-36 Health Survey. We performed this meta-analysis

Continuous Positive Airway Pressure Versus Mandibular Advancement Devices Impact on Cardio-Metabolic Outcomes in Patients With Obstructive Sleep Apnea: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomised Controlled Trials.

Obstructive sleep apnea contributes to cardiovascular morbidity, and its treatment may mitigate this risk. Continuous positive airway pressure and mandibular advancement devices are established therapies, but their comparative cardiometabolic effects remain uncertain. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials from multiple major databases through May 2024, pooling dichotomous outcomes as risk ratios and continuous outcomes as mean differences with 95% confidence intervals using StataMP version 17. Across 14 randomised trials including 1241 patients, CPA

Using short video-based educational intervention to enhance initial acceptance to continuous positive pressure therapy in Thai obstructive sleep apnea patients in a tertiary care: a randomized controlled trial.

PURPOSE: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a prevalent condition associated with decreased quality of life and increased risk of cardiovascular complications. Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy is the gold standard treatment, particularly in moderate to severe OSA. Its effectiveness depends on patient adherence, with compliance rates ranging from 46 to 83%. Various strategies, including education, cognitive behavioral therapy, and supportive care, aim to improve CPAP adherence. This study evaluated the effectiveness of a low-cost, time-efficient video-based educational intervent

Soft palatal webbing flap palatopharyngoplasty for both soft palatal and oropharyngeal lateral wall collapse in the treatment of snoring and obstructive sleep apnea: a new innovative technique without tonsillectomy.

BACKGROUND: The soft palate and the lateral pharyngeal walls have been known to contribute to the collapse of the upper airway in many patients with snoring and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). To our knowledge, there are few surgeries that specifically reshape the soft palate and create enough tension in the lateral pharyngeal wall in the same operation. In this study, we assessed the efficacy of a new technique in the treatment of snoring and OSA. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Twenty eight adults with a body mass index of less than 30 kg/m(2) with Friedman type 2 upper airway with significant soft pa
