We present the results of an open-label clinical trial and the clinical use of alemtuzumab in 19 heavily pretreated patients with advanced erythrodermic cutaneous T-cell lymphomas (CTCL) (erythrodermic mycosis fungoides and Sézary syndrome). Ten patients received alemtuzumab intravenously using an escalating dose regimen with a final dose of 30 mg three times weekly for 4 weeks followed by subcutaneous administration for 8 weeks. HISTORY AND CLINICAL FINDINGS: Three weeks after returning from a trip to Guatemala, a 33-year-old man developed two ulcers with indurated edges on his right leg and painful lymph nodes in the right groin. His general condition was not impaired.
EXAMINATIONS: Histological examination revealed cellular infiltrates of the corium by lymphocytes and plasma cells, always accompanied by epithelial cells and multinuclear giant cells. Special stainings were unable to detect pathogens but Leishmania brasiliensis was identified using PCR. The Leishmania culture remained negative.

This study was an attempt to compensate for an alleged aetiological deficiency in melanoma by the prophylactic oral administration of the essential biological components missing. Nine random patients suffering from high-risk uveal melanoma (T3) were, in this preliminary study, treated secondarily with biological dietary adjuvants after primary standard therapy, enucleation or brachytherapy. Secondary treatment consisted of certain natural amino-acids, trace-element salts, folic acid and a diet containing neurogenic lipid components. It entailed no side-effects, no toxicity and was inexpensive.

Cefprozil is a new orally active cephalosporin which is undergoing in vitro and in vivo evaluations. Using the standard agar dilution method we compared the in vitro activity of this drug with other oral cephalosporins and ciprofloxacin against 637 recent clinical isolates from the Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital, Taiwan. We conducted a phase I/II trial of prostaglandin E1 (PGE1) for the prevention of hepatic venocclusive disease (VOD). Twenty-four patients at high risk for VOD received PGE1 at four dose levels ranging from 1.25 to 10 ng/kg/min. Severe toxicity was experienced at all dose levels and was manifested as cutaneous erythema and desquamation, severe pain in dependent extremities, fluid retention and grade 4 oedema, or hypotension.
