Toward evidence-based prescription of prosthetic ankle-foot devices: A multisite randomized crossover trial identifying performance-based, patient-reported, and biomechanical parameters sensitive to device type.

Prescription of prosthetic ankle-foot devices is constrained by imprecise clinical guidelines and inconsistent scientific evidence, hindering optimal device selection for individuals with lower limb loss. This multisite, prospective, randomized crossover study aimed to identify patient-reported, performance-based, and biomechanical parameters sensitive to ankle-foot device type, providing a foundation for more objective and individualized prescription practices. Ninety-one individuals with unilateral transtibial limb loss completed the crossover trial, and 13 control participants without muscu

Higher amyloid deposition and lower white matter volume in cognitively healthy seniors exceeding French alcohol recommendations.

BACKGROUND: Older adults are particularly vulnerable to alcohol's effects. Our aim was to establish whether differences in neurocognitive health exist between cognitively healthy seniors, depending on whether they follow recent French health recommendations for stricter drinking limits beyond age 65. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cross-sectional study including 133 community-dwelling cognitively healthy participants aged over 65 from the Age-Well Study. Based on their compliance with recommendations, participants were classified as lower-risk or higher-risk. Neurocognitive health was

Osteoporosis Among Glucocorticoid-treated Patients with Giant-cell Arteritis: A Population-based Cohort Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Giant cell arteritis (GCA) is a large vessel vasculitis predominantly affecting patients over 50 years, typically managed with glucocorticoids, with treatment varying on individual patient needs. While effective for GCA, long-term glucocorticoids use poses significant risks, including the development of osteoporosis, a metabolic bone disease common in older individuals. This overlap poses a significant clinical challenge, as the treatment for GCA inadvertently raises the risk of osteoporosis and necessitates careful balance to manage both conditions effectively. OBJECTIVES: To inv

Association between the digestion-resistant bioactive peptide content in dairy products and the risk of sarcopenia in Iranian elderly: a case-control study.

BACKGROUND: Sarcopenia is a generalized and progressive loss of skeletal muscle mass and function, which is associated with various adverse health outcomes, such as fractures, impaired mobility, and increased mortality. Bioactive peptides (BPs) are absorbable protein fragments that remain bioaccessible after digestion. In the present study, we investigated whether the intake of BPs derived from dairy products could reduce the risk of sarcopenia by analyzing the dietary habits of elderly individuals with sarcopenia. METHODS: This case-control study used data collected from a population-based c
