Revealing the enigmatic interplay between helicobacter pylori infection and biliary system diseases using Mendelian randomization analysis.

To date, evidence on the relationship between H. pylori infection and biliary diseases remains unclear. This Mendelian randomization (MR) study aim to investigate the causal relationship between H. pylori infection and various biliary system diseases. We obtained summary statistics for 7 hours. Pylori antibody levels and 5 biliary system diseases (cholelithiasis, cholecystitis, biliary system cancers, primary biliary cholangitis, and primary sclerosing cholangitis [PSC]) from public databases of different populations. The 2-sample bidirectional MR analysis was conducted using the Inverse-Varia

Quantification of Neuromelanin as a Neuroimaging Biomarker for Parkinson's Disease.

Loss of signals from substantia nigra (SN) and locus coeruleus (LC) on neuromelanin (NM)-sensitive sequences of MRI is reported as a potential biomarker in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) and related diseases. This scoping review aims to consolidate current knowledge on MRI techniques to visualize and quantify these signals and their clinical applications in PD. Publicly available databases were searched for original studies using MRI to quantify NM in PD and other related disorders. Different studies were compared based on MRI sequence, quantification techniques and correlations with c

Unraveling the skin; a comprehensive review of atopic dermatitis, current understanding, and approaches.

Atopic dermatitis, also known as atopic eczema, is a chronic inflammatory skin disease characterized by red pruritic skin lesions, xerosis, ichthyosis, and skin pain. Among the social impacts of atopic dermatitis are difficulties and detachment in relationships and social stigmatization. Additionally, atopic dermatitis is known to cause sleep disturbance, anxiety, hyperactivity, and depression. Although the pathological process behind atopic dermatitis is not fully known, it appears to be a combination of epidermal barrier dysfunction and immune dysregulation. Skin is the largest organ of the

Tetralogy of Fallot: Hypoxia, the villain of the story?

BACKGROUND: Tetralogy of Fallot (ToF) is a cyanotic congenital heart disease, composed of four malformations: persistent communication between the right and the left ventricle, pulmonary stenosis, overriding aorta, and right ventricle hypertrophy. The etiology of this disease is not entirely known as yet, but it has been proposed that the pathology has genetic components. During embryonic development, the fetus is exposed to a physiological hypoxia to facilitate the formation of blood vessels and blood cells through de novo processes. METHODS: After researching scientific databases on the imp

Embryonic dormancy in Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus (Diptera: Culicidae): A survival and dispersal mechanism.

Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus are the main vectors of arboviruses such as dengue, Zika virus, and chikungunya. Ae. aegypti is a widely spread mosquito in tropical and subtropical regions, whereas Ae. albopictus is a culicid of Asian origin that shows exophilic behavior and can be found in subtropical and temperate areas. Climatic factors could influence the distribution of both species, making them use genetic and environmental resources to adapt to the environment, activating survival mechanisms (embryonic dormancy) that increase the developmental period and keep their offspring in the e

Development of experimental treatments for patients with retinitis pigmentosa.

Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is a group of inherited diseases that lead to degeneration of the retina and decreased vision. The World Health Organization reports around 1,300 million people affected by some type of visual impairment worldwide. The prevalence is 1 in every 4000 inhabitants and it is the first cause of blindness of genetic origin, frequent in men with a percentage of 60% and 40% in women. There is a lack of information on this pathology in the world, mainly on the existing treatments for this disease, so this bibliographic review aims to update the existing or under-study treatment
