Dental fractures are common trauma complications in the oral cavity. The efficient diagnosis and treatment of dental injury are important elements in clinical dentistry. This article describes a case study of trauma in central maxillary incisors with tooth fragments lodged in the lower lip. Radiographs of the soft structures proved themselves as an important tool in the detection and identification of occult tooth fragments, and play an important role in the establishment of the treatment to be adopted. This paper presents a clinical case of a 2(1/2)-year-old boy who suffered dental trauma because of a fall from a bike. His father thought that the boy's central upper left incisor had been fractured. The clinical exam showed laceration of the upper maxillary frenum and a possible intrusion of the tooth, as the area was swollen. In a study in the Aegean city of Izmir, Turkey, during the summer of 2002, 2101 patients (1046 boys and 1055 girls) were examined. The examination occurred within the framework of a dental check-up performed at two schools and one pre-school unit. The age span ranged from 3.98 to 24.91 years. Sex, age and present permanent teeth were recorded. Wisdom teeth were excluded. The sequence of tooth eruptions differs significantly in the lower and upper jaw, whereas no significant differences existed when comparing the sides of each jaw. Cases of congenitally missing permanent teeth involving only maxillary canines are uncommon. Prevalence studies have revealed that it is a rare finding in Caucasian populations, but it may be relatively more common in Asian groups. This report describes radiographic findings in 32 Chinese children with congenitally missing maxillary permanent canines. The aetiology of such an anomaly is obscure, but the racial difference in prevalence suggests that genetic factors may be more influential than environmental ones.

This case report describes a unique creeping attachment that developed mesiobucally on a deep, wide recession (3 mm) and extended along the remaining buccal recession (2 mm) of a maxillary first molar with a full-crown gold restoration subsequent to autogenous gingival grafting. Complete coverage of the root by this degree of creeping attachment on a restored multirooted tooth has not previously been reported in the dental literature.
