Distal locking is one challenging step during intramedullary nailing of femoral shaft fractures that can lead to an increase of radiation exposure. Avascular necrosis (AVN) of the femoral head is a well-documented complication of intramedullary nailing (IMN) of femoral shaft fractures in adolescents and children (age range, 10 years to 13 years 10 months). Solar elastosis, a histologic indicator of cutaneous sun damage, has also been positively associated with melanoma survival. Operative treatment of distal tibial fractures remains a challenge for the surgeon even today. The soft tissues demand atraumatic operative techniques, although an anatomical reduction of the articular fracture component is mandatory. The nonunion rate increases with disturbed local blood supply, widened fracture gap, unstable fixation. If a nonunion occurs, an individual treatment concept is required, so that even difficult situations can be successfully managed, as described in our case with bilateral tibial nonunions.

INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study was to compare the radiographic results and clinical outcome of unreamed tibial nailing (UTN) and Ilizarov external fixation (IEF) for the treatment of type IIIA open fractures of the tibia.

The aim of this non-randomised prospective study was to evaluate the short-term outcome of Gamma nail and dynamic hip screw (DHS) fixation in the treatment of subtrochanteric hip fractures due to low-energy trauma in the elderly. To reduce complications and increase fixation after the internal fixation of proximal humeral fractures, interlocking intramedullary nailing and tension-band and locking sutures were used simultaneously, and their results are reviewed. We report two cases of scabies treated with oral ivermectin (200 micro g/kg). Case 1, a 72-year-old man, developed crusted scabies with the use of oral corticosteroids due to a misdiagnosis by an earlier physician. The patient was successfully treated with two doses of oral ivermectin at a 7 day interval with concomitant topical use of crotamiton and keratolytic agents.
