Prediction models indicate that melioidosis may be common in parts of East Africa, but there are few empiric data. We evaluated the prevalence of melioidosis among patients presenting with fever to hospitals in Tanzania. Patients with fever were enrolled at two referral hospitals in Moshi, Tanzania, during 2007-2008, 2012-2014, and 2016-2019. Blood was collected from participants for aerobic culture. The hyper-endemicity of dengue in Indonesia poses a significant threat of dengue virus (DENV) vertical transmission during pregnancy. A 29-year-old female at 38 weeks of pregnancy presented to hospital with acute fever and later confirmed with DENV infection. Strongyloides venezuelensis is an intestinal nematode of rats, frequently used as a model for studying human and animal strongyloidiasis. BACKGROUND: Neuromyelitis optica (NMO) IgG is a specific marker for NMO. Furthermore, a high proportion of patients with longitudinally extensive transverse myelitis (characterized by spinal cord lesions extending 3 vertebral segments or more on magnetic resonance imaging) are seropositive for NMO-IgG and are considered to have a limited form of NMO. We are reporting the results of HLA-A typing by PCR-SSOP complemented by PCR-SSP of samples obtained from the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP). These samples were a representative group from 2486 tested in duplicate by serology. A total of 390 samples gave HLA-A discrepant results. Comparing the molecular typing results of 238 samples (samples with available DNA) with the serological typing results, 54 homozygotes and 184 heterozygotes produced a total of 422 assignments by molecular methods.
