Would COVID-19 vaccination willingness increase if mobile technologies prohibit unvaccinated individuals from public spaces? A nationwide discrete choice experiment from China.

BACKGROUND: Achieving COVID-19 community protection (aka, herd immunity) in China may be challenging because many individuals remain unsure or are unwilling to be vaccinated. One potential means to increase COVID-19 vaccine uptake is to essentially mandate vaccination by using existing mobile technologies that can prohibit unvaccinated individuals from certain public spaces. The "Health Code" is a ubiquitous mobile phone app in China that regulates freedom of travel based on individuals' predicted risk of exposure to SARS-CoV-2. Green-colored codes indicate ability to travel unrestricted in lo

Serological evidence of Rift Valley fever virus infection among domestic ruminant herds in Uganda.

BACKGROUND: Prior to the first recorded outbreak of Rift Valley fever (RVF) in Uganda, in March 2016, earlier studies done until the 1970's … chi-square tests for comparisons between districts and species in the regions. RESULTS: During the Yellow Fever outbreak investigation of 2010-2011 in the northern region, a total sero-prevalence of 6.7% was obtained for anti RVFV reacting antibodies (IgG and IgM) among the domestic ruminant population. The 2013 sero-survey in the western region showed a prev …

Viral Exploration of Negative Acute Febrile Cases Observed during Chikungunya Outbreaks in Gabon.

Non-malarial febrile illness outbreaks were documented in 2007 and 2010 in Gabon. After investigation, these outbreaks were attributed to th … tract nucleic acids and perform real-time RT-PCR targeting specific arboviruses, i.e., CHIKV, DENV, yellow fever, Rift Valley fever, and West Nile and Zika viruses. Virus isolation was conclusive for 43 samples either on newborn mice or by cell culture. Virus identification by RT-PCR led to the identification of CHIKV in 37 isolates. A total of 18 complete gen …

Exploring the molecular basis of insecticide resistance in the dengue vector Aedes aegypti: a case study in Martinique Island (French West Indies).

BACKGROUND: The yellow fever mosquito Aedes aegypti is a major vector of dengue and hemorrhagic fevers, causing up to 100 million dengue infections every year. As there is still no medicine and efficient vaccine available, vector control largely based on insecticide treatments remains the only method to reduce dengue virus transmission. Unfortunately, vector control programs are facing operational challenges with mosquitoes becoming resistant to commonly used insecticides. Resistance of Ae. aegypti to chemical insecticides has been reported worldwide and the underlying molecular mechanisms, in…

Clinical characteristics, tongue manifestations, and traditional Chinese medicine syndrome patterns of spring influenza A in children: a single-center retrospective study.

OBJECTIVE: To systematically analyze the clinical manifestations, dynamic changes in hematological parameters, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) tongue characteristics, and syndrome differentiation patterns in children with influenza A during spring, so as to provide clinical evidence for the integrated Chinese and Western medicine diagnosis and treatment of pediatric influenza A in spring. METHODS: A single-center retrospective study design was adopted. A total of 143 children who visited the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine of our hospital in the spring of 2024 and 2025 and were

Travellers on immunosuppressive/immunomodulatory therapy who received live vaccines [yellow fever vaccination (YFV), measles/mumps/rubella (MMR), varicella and/ or oral typhoid vaccination (OTV)] between 2008 and 2015 were identified and interviewed. A total of 60 age- and sex-matched controls (matched to Basel/Zurich travel clinics travellers) …

Secondary structure of the 3' untranslated region of flaviviruses: similarities and differences.

Genetic algorithm-based RNA secondary structure prediction was used in combination with comparative sequence analysis to construct models of folding for the distal part of the 3'-untranslated region of flaviviruses belonging to four serological groups. Elements of RNA secondary structure that are preserved among all the flaviviruses studied were revealed, despite the high degree of sequence divergence between them. At the same time, structural elements were observed that distinguish members of different serological groups and, in particular, a region of remarkable structural divergence between

Clinical proof of principle for ChimeriVax: recombinant live, attenuated vaccines against flavivirus infections.

ChimeriVax is a live, attenuated recombinant virus constructed from yellow fever (YF) 17D in which the envelope protein genes of YF 17D are replaced with the corresponding genes of another flavivirus. A ChimeriVax vaccine was developed against Japanese encephalitis (JE). A randomized, double-blind, outpatient study was conducted to compare the safety and immunogenicity of ChimeriVax-JE and YF 17D. Six YF immune and six non-immune adults were randomized to receive a single SC inoculation of ChimeriVax-JE (5log(10)PFU), ChimeriVax-JE (4log(10)PFU) or YF-VAX((R)) (5log(10)PFU). Mild, transient in…
