We herein describe the ultrasonographic findings of 19 patients with clinical suspicion of acute diverticulitis. The criteria considered as evidence of the disease included the identification of the diverticuli, thickening of the wall of the loop, alteration of local mesenterium and selective pain. At the Donetsk Regional Antitumour Centre different techniques have been developed for formation of artificial urinary bladder from rectum. An unusual case of laryngeal carcinoma metastasizing to the small intestine is reported. The patient was admitted to our hospital due to hoarseness, sore throat and dyspnoea. Pathological examination on the laryngeal mass revealed it to be moderately differentiated squamous cell carcinoma, staged as T4N0M0. CASE: A postmenopausal woman with rapidly enlarging leiomyoma uteri was found to have a suspicious left adnexal mass mimicking an ovarian neoplasm on preoperative MRI. At laparotomy, the suspected uterus and normal ovaries were extirpated. In addition, a firm, 4 x 8-cm solid mass within the sigmoid colon mesentery was found and resected. Sixty-two patients with ulcerative colitis localised to the distal sigmoid colon and rectum (less than 20 cm) entered the trial. Thirty-two were treated with 5-ASA 500 mg suppositories (Asacol) 3 times a day for 1 month while 30 received a placebo given in the same regime. Expression of the human pancreatic secretory trypsin inhibitor (PSTI) gene was examined in 24 cases of neoplastic tissues by Northern blot analyses. Unusual complications of the Politano-Leadbetter ureteral reimplantation technique are reported in four ureters in three children with primary vesicoureteral reflux (VUR).
