The acute electrophysiological effects of intravenous propafenone were studied through programmed electrical stimulation in 9 patients with atrio-ventricular nodal dual pathways reentrant tachycardia (AVNDP-RT). The results showed that propafenone prolonged significantly the effective refractory period of atrial ventricular nodal fast pathway (AVN-FP) in retrograde conduction and might further terminate the paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (PSVT). It is an effective drug for treating AVNDP-RT. Neither blood pressure dropping nor other side effects were observed.

The purpose of this study was to assess the effectiveness of different treatments in patients with alopecia totalis or universalis who did not respond to sensitizing therapies. The analgesic and spasmolytic effects of dipyrone (Novalgin) (2500 mg/100 kg bodyweight) hyoscine-N-butylbromide (Buscopan) (20 mg/100 kg bodyweight) and a combination of both drugs were evaluated in a balloon-induced model of colic, using five ponies with caecal fistulae. PURPOSE: The mainstay of pharmacologic therapy in patients with dermatomyositis is corticosteroids. However, because patients sometimes become refractory to these drugs and because these drugs have potential short- and long-term toxicities, alternate therapy is highly desirable. The known filaricides, suramin and diethylcarbamazine citrate, were tested against subperiodic Brugia malayi infection in the leaf-monkey, Presbytis cristata. We studied the effects of intravenous flecainide acetate, given as a single dose of 2 mg/kg in no less than 15 minutes, on 31 patients with supraventricular tachyarrhythmias.
